This is my first attempt at a major conversion and minor sculpting. The figure started out as Andrea's Cortez. The finished figure has only 6 pieces of the original kit. The horse is a Michael Roberts horse. The head (human) is a resin Historex head with Magic Sculpt beard, hair and hat. Its painted in mostly acrylics.

Hey Joe,

You have done a really nice job on him. I think you are going to be doing many more conversions in the future. Will you have it in Atlanta?

All the best,

Joe

Ditto the comments on the figure and the base, they look AWESOME !!! How did you do the "ripple" effect for it ?
Kenneth.

Nice work! I love the water and the effect of the water coming off of the horses front hoof. This is possibly the most convincing sand and sea water effect I have seen. Good job! (y)

Great work Joe,

I'am always curious about the original. So thanks for that. Now i get to look at Andreas site for the original figure and make a game as surch for the 10 differences.

Marc.

Thanks for the great replies.
Joe Hudson: Thanks. Yes, I do plan on making more of my own ideas. As far as bringing the figure to Atlanta, its a commision and it depends on the client.
Jason, Anders, Kenneth, Jay: This was the scariest part of the whole project. Since the surf is flowing over the horse's hooves, the COMPLETELY PAINTED horse had to be in place on the base (i.e. only one shot). The terain was done by making the beach out of Magic Scupt with fine sand pressed in. Hoof prints were pressed into the soft putty. With the horse in place, I built up a few layers on plain clear epoxy for the water. From looking at many photos of surf and beaches I noticed that the surface of the water has many "peaks and valleys" so the last coat of epoxy I dabbed with a stick as it set to make a "chopy sea" like surface. The little waves and rolling edge of the surf was done with Woodland Scenics "Water Effects" sort of like very thick white glue that dries cystal clear. That was used to make the drips on the hooves as well. The sea foam (patterns copied from photos) was first painted with white paint but it didn't lcover that well so I Dabbed on slightly thinned Vallejo "Plastic Putty" with an old stubby brush. I fogot to mention above, the last layer of epoxy water was slightly tinted with a tiny drop of Vallejo "Military Green" to give it a seawater color. the straight was TOO clear.
Marc: Let me know if you can't find the unused pieces

Joe, Very nice work. Like the others I too love the groundwork, or in this case "waterwork". Show us more.~Gary
