Sorry that 's my opinion. I have been airbrushing since my art school days back in the eighties. Most artists/modellers do not realize that when they work so close they are inhaling the paint dust vapour. Look at the overspray. Try cleaning your nostrils after your airbrush session and you will know what I mean. If you don't use a filter gauge for your compressor you will see your airbrush spitting water spots on your models/artwork especially humidity is high in your area.
 
Yellowcat, I said in my post I was not wanting to start an argument and also that airbrushing is not for everybody. In terms of a mask a simple surgical one for water based paint is fine and an in line water trap is a couple of bucks on ebay and certainly peanuts compared to the cost of a decent brush. I respect your views but was simply pointing out that if airbrushing works for you then fine just like if you use oils as opposed to acrylics.
