Hi everyone. I finally finished Pilipili's Landsknecht, sans feather in the hat (see earlier post re: feather construction). I used Alcad II metalizer paint on the armour for the first time, and really liked the effect. Well, I hope you enjoy the post and I would welcome any comments and criticisms. :)

Hello Glenn,

If I've known you at the time we were releasing this figure, I would have asked you to do the box art!!

The painting is fantastic but the face is simply WUNDERBAR! Too bad about your aborted attempt at a feather, but believe me it's just as good as it is now.

Thank you for making me so proud! (y) (y) (y)

I agree with all the compliments. This is really excellent work. I have long admired this figure and have drooled over some other painters' renderings, but overall I like yours the best.

And you can't get much better than to have the sculptor say such glowing things about your work!

Congratulations.

Don

Thank you all very much indeed, and especially to you Quang. It's quite something to receive such postive feedback from the sculptor himself, and I would be honoured to paint one of your new releases anytime! In anycase, I'm glad my fellow planeteers liked it. Thanks again everyone.

absolutely fabulous, Glenn! Especially that armor. ('Alclad' is it called? What is it and how'd you do that???? I'm agog!) And wonderful detail work on the fabric - this piece is a real treat for the eye!

Thanks much!

Hi Nancy;

Alclad II is a lacquer based metal paint designed to be used with an airbrush. It's fairly popular with aircraft modelers (which was where I first heard of it). It comes in various metal "shades", like steel, aluminum, titanium etc. One of the nice features of this stuff is that it can be buffed to a shine once dry, which only takes a few minutes. Before you apply it, you have to polish the surface you plan to paint. The smoother the surface, the better the finish. Its delicate stuff too, so I sealed it with a coat of gloss acrylic before moving on to other areas. After that, I applied shadows and highlights with Humbrol enamals and Artists Oil paint as usual. I would be shocked if you couldn't find Alclad II, or a similar product in your local hobby shop, but I'm sure you could pick it up through Squadron mail order or online somewhere. I hope this helps answer your question. Cheers

Thanks for the info, Glenn! Very helpful! I think I'm going to try it - my figures with armor have been vexing me (end up looking too darn shiney and plastic). Which color did you use?

Again, great job with the Landsknecht!

Thanks again!
Nancy

Guys hi

Thats a terrific piece of work. Love the bright clean colours, and the contrast
with the armour.

The bad news is the figure has just been added to the

"must purchase at Euro" list.
