Beautiful work Julian........I love your flesh tones.......very life-like. I am so glad you were able to post a picture of him........and I understand he took a Gold medal too......Congratulations

looks a little pasty faced but that is probably due to lighting or camera. otherwise looks great. thanks for posting.

Thanks for your comments .
The picture was taken with flash , it's a low light enviroment , certainly the real thing looks different !
I had to upgrade the picture a little bit to make it worth posting it..
Regards
Julian

Thanks , This bust is very heavy and I decided to use a hevy block wood base , because slimmer ones would fall during transport or had more chances to it
(because of the high center of gravity LOL).
I don't like short bases , I think this one is fine , but reall massive to avoid the heavy metal bust to wheight more than the base.
Regards , Please , keep the comments !
Julian

I Like this bust, although this is not my prefered period.
It has so much atmosphere and you have done it justice, well done...

Dave

Aside the effect of the light on the picture, I think the flash tone is really appropiate for an eldery man like this.

Thanks Everybody for your kind and valued words !
I hope to get more pictures soon , details , close ups , and will be posting here .
This was a very nice bust to do , extremely well sculpted , the iron cross is a gem !
Regards
Julian

Marc ,
The flesh is the simple way (verlinden way Improved!) , Tamiya flat flesh overall , then a mixture of rembrandt oils (raw umber , burnt sienna , yellow ochre and white) that is applyed all over de face area , then removed with a fine cloth , remaining only a thin tone of oil .
I blend in the remaining oil then I let it dry for a couple of days , then I begin the process of shadows and highlights , adding raw umber to the original mixture for dark and white for highlight .
I don't like to make High contrasts , too dark and too ligh effects ....
Dry once again , I add Grey (black and white oils blended with the original mixture) to make the shaved effect (That I like very much...) and Voillá!
Thanks for the kind words.
Regards
Julian

The subtle shading on the 5 oclock shadow is some of the best that I have seen posted here. Very effective ! (y)
