Hi Chris
The painting of the armour is pretty easy to do.I applied 2 coats of Dark Star baroque metal acrylic paint. You could use any fairly bright steel acrylic paint, but I really like Darkstar's stuff,as it's really creamy and goes on so well, using a brush.I then mix some lamp black oils with a bit of burnt umber, and then apply it all over the acrylic painted armour, without any thinners being added.I then start taking it off with a large brush, and then use a stippling motion with a bit of foam that comes in the packaging of most figures.I keep doing this until I get the effect i'm after, then leave it to dry for a couple of days.I then pick out highlights with the Darkstar paint and voila, all done. It's a very simple way to paint armour, which suits me fine.If you don't get the result you're after, just take of the oil stain with thinners and try again.By trying different oil mixes you can get different tones on the armour.

Brian,

Many thanks for your comments on painting the armour. Much appreciated. Your method certainly works well,

Regards
Chris

Very nice couple of busts.
I've recently got a set of the Darkstar metal paints, which I'm still tinkering with. Your sbs for the Swiss mercenary is therefore very timely.

Cheers,
Andrew

Beautiful work Brian! Is this the method you used on your Saladin bust? I am about to start mine and I really like the job you did. Shame I couldn't enlarge it though
Thanks for these pics. Definitely something to keep in the back pocket! (y)

Great work on both. Thanks for the armor painting tips. I am going to give it a try on a cuirassier that I have.
