Hey all,

Been a while but here's the latest from me - a Royal Navy Officer c. 1805 in 54mm from El Viejo Dragon. I really liked the pose and weight shift on this one. The box art did a much better job of depicting "Mr. Crowe" than I was able to ( I didn't even try), but I'm pretty pleased with the result nonetheless:

The usual oils over acrylics - it was my first real studied attempt at painting gold without metallics (except for the buttons) and as usual, I sweated over the whites (still not quite confident there yet). On to the next...!

As always, comments, critiques or advice much appreciated.

Cheers,

Brian

I beg to differ. It looks very much like Mr Crowe.Very nice work.

Oda.

I've been thinking about getting this figure. Great to see a well-painted version. May well have to order one now. Good groundwork too.

Thanks all for the kind comments - it's a nice little gem of a figure and I'd definitely recommend it; he does have a certain "somethin'".

The "groundwork" was loosely based on the resin base that came with the kit - I replicated it with balsa wood (debris), coffee stir sticks (decking), string (large hawser (?)), twisted lead wire (ropes) and putty (tarp and sailcloth fragment).

Edward - I got mine from El Greco - great service from these folks and highly recommended.

Thanks again,

Brian

Awesome work Brian! (y)
The blue is outstanding and the NMM gold is tip-top. Like a lot what you did with the whites.
It is a lovely piece. The "groundwork" is very creative.
It was a pleasure to see it in person.
Take care my friend and looking forward to see you soon.
Cheers,
Zeno :)

Lovely job. You shouldn't be so nervous about whites either - they look fine to me.

Cheers

A perfect piece from top to bottom.
I wish I could finish 'whites' as well as you.

Cheers,
Andrew

Andrew, Pedro & John,

Thanks kindly gents for the comments - much appreciated!

Brian
P.S. Just noticed as I looked at the photos of the figure that I forgot to add button holes to the vest where it was open to show the shirt ruffles - oops! I just added some today - I feel so much better now ... ;)

Hi Brian - I have been MIA due to house reno work (garg!) so I am just catching up to this one. Great job! Wonderful blue and fawn colours and I can't say enough about how you set him with cut ropes, splinters, and downed sails. Sets the story very completely. Makes me wish I had gone to Hamilton but I was in Stratford at Hot Lead instead.

Thanks very much Colin - if it passes muster with a Napoleonics nerd like yerself, then I do feel complimented :)

With the groundwork for this figure, I could almost re-title the piece "Colin Fraser, mid- Reno, Stratford, 2016" ;)

Thanks again,
Brian
