Completed Critique My really first vignette : Hohenstaufen Division´44

Hi,

after showing one of my latest vignette, I´d like to present the very first "serious" vignette since I started painting figures. It show´s two figures of the Dragon Hohenstaufen Division somewhere in nowhere in the Normandy.

Painted with Vallejo Acrylics. With a lot´s of Beginner-mistakes, like the big staring eyes and the shining finish of the figures and so on...but I´m learning from critique, so don´t hold back to rate this one.

Great camo, the only thing I can spot is the kneeling figure seems unbalanced from the front view.

I already started to read the articles even before I did my registration here. In fact I just started to get more into the figure painting since I found this community, so it looks like I already used the knowledge I got here on the projects I´m working at.

Thanks all for the kind comments, this is always a good motivation to do the new projects even better.

( Hope my english is also getting better by interacting on this board, I often stuck when writing sentences because my vocabulary is not the best. ).

very nice for a 1st time, the 2º will be better and so on.
Mike, will be better for you in future concentrate your efforts in better figures like Alpine, Mantis etc resin stuff man!!! it is better for you to achive fine results because they are much better than this Gen2 from Dragon more easy to paint everything is detailed 100%.

Hi Pedro,

thanks for your advice. I thought the Gen2 figures would be more pleasure to paint than older one´s of DML´s figures, but everytime I see a painted Alpine or Mantis I think the same in fact of details and sculpting. So I guess I´ll do some more DML´s for learning the techniques and try on a resin figure in the near future. Also I´d like to paint busts in 1/10 from Young Miniatures, but first I´ll practice a bit more to get a good result.

The positive thing about DML figure´s is in my opinion that they have a great pool of different figures for dioramas and things like that when the eyecatcher is a vehicle or tank and the figures stand around but for stand alone in a vignette they are unfortunately not that high detail level I would wish for myself.

But every figure is a pleasure to paint when you see that your own skill get´s better, so I´ll try different manufactures and see what I´ll get.

When i started painting i also used "cheaper" figures.
At my club they advised me to buy a Pegaso figure. I listen and painted the figure.
It was almost that the figure painted his self.
If you looking for painting figures, get not disapointed, and will keep painting figures. Give a little more for good figures and i'm sure you said that all the guys who said this are right.

thanks for your advice. I´ll take a look around what´s on the market and buy an Alpine or Mantis I guess. If it´s such a different it will be the best way to go.

But there are one or two older projects I´ll do first, I hate it when I´ve started too many projects than I can handle with and to throw them in the garbage they´re not bad enough for. So in a while you can see new results .
