The flash suppressor was cut off by the SAS to give that shock factor in close jungle.

Jimmy,

We unscrewed the flash suppressor to lessen the chance of the barrel being caught in the thick undergrowth in SVN. One member of our squadron carried an SLR with the barrel itself cut down to just above the end of the stock - slowed the rate of fire and sounded more like a .30cal - that was shock effect. It was known as "The Bitch"

This is a fine bust, beautifully painted - and about as accurate as you could make it, down to the 30 round mag, the strobe light pouch on the yoke strap, and the cut out gloves. Brings back lots of memories. Congratulations and well done.

Best wishes
Chris

Good to hear of your first hand experience Chris, invaluable for we modellers.
These are heavily researched & based on original source materials, then meticulously sculpted by hand.
Approx 300 hours goes into the master.

Great to see these available more freely & expect to see more busts too.

Stay safe,
Mike.

PS for those unsure about these big guys here's my converted version of Bardia figure:

There's an SBS linked off that too.

Thanks for the comments Chris extremely helpful coming from you. This example was painted by the staff at Naked Army. I think SASSPORTS still have the full size kit that NA did for the 50th. Once my bust arrives I'll crack on with trying to get the ERDL more accurate. It has surprised me amount of interest the post has generated so hopefully any increase in sales will get Naked Army producing even more great kits. For anyone interested in US Forces Vietnam I recommend his sister site http://www.khaki-army.com/home.php

Thanks Jim.

Hi Mike and Jimmy,

Not sure I added anything worthwhile. I think you guys have nailed the details perfectly = clearly the result of first class research. I am most impressed with the Naked Army series of models - high class, accurate and beautifully made. I was presented with the bronze SAS figure in CT gear by COMSOCOM a few years back, and it sits proudly in our lounge room.

I wish I had the skills of the members of this forum - there is a lot of amazing talent out there, both sculpting and painting, and I admire what they do, truly inspirational. Keep up the good work everyone, it is a delight just view the beautiful work being done.

Best wishes
Chris
