I'm a year into figure painting and at a point where I'd like to start placing name plates on some of my bases.

Questions:

1. I searched here and on the net and cannot find sources for name plates. Where do you buy yours online?

2. What kind of engraving tool do you use?

3. I have a Dremel tool - can I buy an engraving kit for the Dremel?

Thanks, everyone, for any help you can provide.

Cheers,

Kyle :)

Kyle,
A nameplate finishes off a figure , I definately would not try a do it yourself , the local jeweller would be able to do them , I have a contact in UK from a company called "Name it" , great service with very good results , if you wish I can let you have the details .
I have in the past used Milliput to make my own name plates then hand painted the details ..this is good if you wat to get a special effect ie animal skin or parchment .
Hope this helps Regards Kev

I order my name plates by Nameit in the UK. They sending it by post and have extremely beautifull nameplates.
You can choose out of hundred of letters, ornaments, borders on the plates etc.
They are not expensive.

They send you the folder where you can choose out. Paymant is trough IBAN bankaccount.

Kyle, Don't rule out making nameplates using your computer and some transparency film. It's a lot cheaper and you can put quite a few plates on one sheet of film.~Gary

Gary,

Thanks - yeah, saving the money would be great. Can you point me in a direction with transparency film? IOW, a website or something? I'll poke around a bit and investigate this.

Thanks again,

Kyle

An excellent source for name plates is:
Terry Howard
C/O Howard Plaques and Trophies
3320 Governors Court
Duluth, GA 30096
P# 770 623-0703
or 770 623-1492
He is inexpensive, and does a fantastic job. Highly recommended.

Terry Howard does all my engraving for me. I send him an order by email and he mails them to me when they are done. He's done hundreds for me. Highly reccomended.

Just drop in at your local Walmart or Office Depot store and look at the section that sells paper for computer printers. You should easily be able to find it there. You can make your plates using text boxes on word. Be sure to flip your images so they print in reverse. When you flip the sheet so you can read it the glossy side will be facing you. You can then go in and spray paint the back side (non-glossy side) with silver, gold, or brass spray paint, or any other color you would like to use. After drying you could mount the sheet of plates to a piece of black cardstock which you can get in the scrap book section at a craft store. The cut the plates with a fresh X-acto blade and mount with epoxy or double sided tape.~Gary
