Stumbled across this the other day - a new and ultra realistic digital rendition of
you-know-who. It's based on several existing portraits processed through a cutting
edge hi-res manipulation program by Dutch digital artist/photographer Bas Uterwijk.
Might be useful for those seeking decent reference material.

Quite stunning, actually :wideyed: I have often wondered if all the portraits of a certain period in his life could all be amalgamated, what he would then look like......and here we are !
Vive l'Empereur

Interesting idea. But he looks slightly gaunt here. I'll bet the artist used the Gros painting of Napoleon at Arcola. I think it depends on the sampling.
I think his death mask would be a conclusive image of him at any one time.

I understand that Bas Uterwijk amalgamated seven portraits to produce the result we see here.
We'll never actually know for certain exactly what the Emperor looked like, but this is a sort of
'best guess'. Not sure about the death mask thing, Can't help thinking, Victor, that we surely don't
look our best when we're lying there dead - especially if you subscribe to the view that 'the thief of
Europe' was poisoned.

Hi Mike,
You mean they didn’t hire the best pallor (pun intended) artist for Nap?
I didn’t know you subscribe to that weird Weider theory either?
I think that these classically trained artists David, Gerard, Gros,Isabey, Ingres, Delaroche etc have more or less captured the essence of his features, before photography. Except for Delaroche, all the others have met Nap.
