A Fixture
Glad to be able to catch up with you guys, at last. (I changed my favourite to the second 'version' of the site and got stuck with an error 404 for the past week.). Anyhow, back to bidness!
Like Bob, I second Leigh's comments.
As far as folds and draping are concerned, there's a simple rule: they always come in pairs.
For each fold, there's an opposite: if a fold goes up, there must be a corresponding one which goes down. The same applies with left/right, inside/outside. You can't go wrong if you follow this simple Yin/Yang principle.
As a matter of fact, I'm always referring to Michelangelo's Pieta as a text-book case as it regroups every conceivable kind of fold. When in doubt, I'd check the Pieta.
However my main source of inspiration/admiration goes to BERNINI, IMO the greatest sculptor of the Baroque era and the indisputable master of the art of the bust.
My advice to the budding sculptor is: do not waste your time with the lower ranks, go directly to the top.
A separate discussion topic about the 'artistic/esthetical' side of the hobby is an excellent idea and should help to 'push the envelope' of our hobby a little further. I second such an idea 110%.
