Hi Guy's,

Long time no post
Well am ready to jump into a project after a lengthy absence am the project i'm going to start on is my Verlinden 120mm NVA regular with a little change in in parts and so i am in need of a US M1 steel pot without the camo cover;anyone know of a source where i can get a good detailed resin one?
Thanks.

Hi Tom,

Warriors has a couple of great 120mm head sets that contain some nice clean US M1 helmets without netting, along with some German Stahlhelms and some other types of head gear. The M1 helmets are really nicely done, showing the liner retaining strap running along the front surface of the steel pot with the rim of the liner clearly shown inside the steel shell. With some work you could add a net or a camo cover. In the past, I've added chin strap swivels made from small gage wire to hold a web chin strap made from thin styrene. You should be able to find the head sets via Squadron or VLS.

Regards,

Dave

Hey Tom long time no hear. I have also done that NVA figure I remodelled the AK upwards and to the side and hollowed out the magazine housing, trying to get the "just about to load" effect. Nice figure and if put next to a Caucasion looks to be in a nice proportion. Good luck and post a photo when finished

Hey guy's,

Yes it is a very nice figure;the AK in my kit has the front sight and barrel piece broken into particles (lol) so i need to get a replacement for it which i am doing from Red Lancers and it's actually a better one than the kit AK.
It's a chinese model AK with the spike bayonet which will fit the era very nicely.
I was thinking of hollowing out the magazine as well and putting a couple of the turned brass MG bullets which the 1/35 50 cal. round would have worked well for a 120mm 7.62x39 AK round but instead am wanting to replace the magazine with a US steel pot painted in the ARVN camo and the black cat emblem on the front.
The picture in my mind is around the fall of Saigon so he wont be in any jungle terrain, maybe pavement and part of a stone wall.
Well thats my thinking so far,but first to get going on the figure (lol)
Thanks for all the help ;)

I don't know what is the story with Verlinden figures and weapons, it's as if they are an afterthought. If assembled OOB the magazines usually stick out way too far (look at any of his M16 kits or the SA80 supplied with the modern desert rat kit - too awful for words) Your idea sounds like a nice take on the figure and i'm looking forward to the result!
