Hi everyone
Just a quick question I'm going to mix printers ink with burnt umber oil. What I was wondering is do I need to mix a drying agent with the oils and ink or will they dry on there own?
Cheers Tony

Tony, it's been my experience that you don't need any other drying medium when mixing your PIs with oils. If I'm using the PIs alone, I use the liquid carrier that floats to the top in a small tin of Humbrol enamel (don't shake the can before opening so you can just dip into the clear carrier). Seems to thin nicely and dries quickly. HTH

Certainly not with Burnt Umber in the mix - this is one of the fastest driers in oils because of the manganese content.

The printers' inks that we use to simulate metallics vary, when you're using them straight some need a little something added to dry properly while others don't - so do a little test, see if it dries on its own and if so whether it rubs off easily. If it needs some medium you can also use Liquin or stand oil if you have either (hardware store boiled linseed oil can even be used if it's all that was available, although it will tend to yellow over time).
