I have gone through all my books including 2 Osprey books on Persians. I have searched the net. I still cant find any good info on uniforms for my Persian Immortal 5th Century. Does anyone know of any web sites or books on the subject? I am trying to figure out what colours to paint his tunic, quilted over shirt, and pants. The instructions only say the over shirt was coloured cloth or leather. Thanks in advance for any help.

Oh and I only found 1 other figure painted up, and that was on this site.

Thanks Martin. None of those is like my figure and I still dont know how to paint the quilted over shirt. But those figures give me ideas for the shirt and pants. Appreciate the help.

Ancients aren't my period of interest but they were being sold as Persians!
Now that I think of it I've got the old Blandford book around somewhere, it has illustrations based on the carvings you've shown. If anyone finds their copy of the book before me please post the pictures.:)

Martin.

Thanks Hans and Martin. This is the figure I have http://www.planetfigure.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44118 I've never done a Persian before. I have 2 Osprey books on the Persians, but they don't seem to have any info pertinent to this figure. It is an Aitna 75mm. I checked a few figure sites and the only article I have found is a blog here http://www.planetfigure.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43613&highlight=Persian
I am really not sure what to do or how to paint this now.
I appreciate all the help you've given.

As I said ancients aren't my main interest but I would have thought any natural dye colours would be exceptable. Colours weren't a fixed as modern chemicals dyes so tended to fade. Here are some natural colours I found on the net.

OK, the Darius' Immortals (who got their name from the greek, Herodot, not from the Persians) are a little bit too "old" for the generation you are looking for.

This year a very qualified reennactment of the battle of Marathon took at place on the real battle ground. It you make a google image search, some good samples could be found.

Another one, just to get a "better feeling" of antique colors. Some years ago a project was made to restore the colors and paints on antique monuments. The results of this project were shown in a exhibition "Bunte Götter" (Bunte Goetter), which means "Colourful deities".
A google image search will show most of these reconstructions. One remark by me: The methods used revealed only the "pure", unbroken pigment. No chance for "broken" colors. But the results shows the complicated patterns, the very colorful styles etc.

The google search:

Here a sample of persians of the Alexander period. The naked fighters are the greek heroes:
