Nemrod/Historex Napoleonic Dragoon

I have been moonlighting over on the Small Subjects Historex Group Build. Yeah I know faithless scoundrel but hey I have the time on my hands.

Anyway I picked up a Nemrod Dragoon at the Letchworth show a couple of years ago, never thought I'd get aound to making it but then I rediscovered Historex, so I got cracking.

The figure is resin apart from the helmet and musket. It came in four pieces, the legs, lower half of the cloak, he shoulders and a bare head. It all went together really well but keeping it separate for painting made test fitting the parts a struggle.

The horse is pure Historex and painted in oils, something I haven't done in a long while. I won't go into detail as I am describing my method in a WIP with the Belgian Lancer.

Lovely job! Not quite traditional Historex but some of the newer Nemrod figures are very nice. This turned out really well and the finished piece looks great.

Brad, if the kit did have material for the reins I'm sure it went straight in the bin, all the additional tack and reins are made from the foil from corked bottles of wine, it's not the old pewter/lead foil but is good stuff to use.

Oda, there are some lovely builds in that group, it's really nice to see traditional Historex still being built.

Nigel, not a true Historex I agree but it only cost a quid on the tombola and I wasn't going to waste it once I got the Historex bug back. It would not have had the cloak if I'd made the rider from real Historex.

I've got a stash of lead foil from my dentist. It's the packets that the old X-ray blanks were packaged in. He had a whole bucketful of them, and he couldn't get rid of 'em. Couldn't throw them in the trash, and too little an amount to use the disposal service required by federal regulation. We were talking about hobbies, and I said I use lead foil for things like this, and I was glad to take it off his hands.

I also have some from tubes of tomato paste. Companies making Italian foods here only recently started selling tomato paste in tubes. Until a few years ago, it was sold just in little cans. Pain in the butt to use, too-one can was more than you usually needed for a recipe. Anyway, those tubes are made of really great old-school metal foil.

Hi Brad, I think of all the old toothpaste tubes I threw away over the years before they started using plastic. Still I am quite content to maintain a healthy stock of wine bottle foil caps, my liver might not agree but it should last another 20 years maybe so can't complain too much!
