Hi all!, this is a question for those of you still painting with oils.
I just bought that Nemrod W.W.1 Marine. Since I'm using oil paints to finish him, what colors should i use for the base colors and the highlight and shadow colors?
Thanks in advance, you can contact me directly at [email protected].

Ben - Can't help any with the paint colors, but wanted to mention that a few months after their arrival in Europe almost all the USMC troops were re-equipped with US Army uniforms, etc. They retained the USMC emblems, etc. Was the figure sculpted in the USMC uniform?

All the best,
Dan

Hi guys, thanks for the info, The figure is basically cast in the typical U.S. Army uniform, in fact I was thinking of sculpting the Globe and Anchor on the front of the helmet. I think I will at least paint the globe and anchor on the front as was, sometimes, the custom.
Thanks again,
Ben

Ben and Roger - I'm traveling on business and can't check my references unfortunately, but will do so tonight when I get back home. Not totally sure, but I think I have this figure and will check to see what uniform was sculpted. The helmet and collar (in either case) definitely should have the globe and anchor. Unless of course they gave their collar brass away to the civilians like the British soldiers.

All the best,
Dan

Ben - the uniform on the figure is the M1917 with breast pocket and back tunic pleats - definitely USMC. My figure came with beautifully sculpted globe and anchor on the helmet. For color references for forest green try Osprey MAA 327 - USMC in WWI. The figure has no collar brass and the Osprey shows the uniform without collar brass. On the other hand, I've got Armes Militaria pics of the M1917 with collar brass. Slightly confusing. On the M1918 uniform they added collar brass globe and anchors on each side of the stand-up collar.

All the best,
Dan
