The myth about "horned" Gauls arose in many respects thanks to Catholic church. The main source of information on an era of Vikings are church chronicles of Europe. Gauls often attacked churches and monasteries, plundered their property. It is quite natural that terrible robbers declared «devil spawns», "devils", etc. therefore to furious Vikings and began to attribute helmets with horns. So the myth about "horned" Gauls and Vikings affirmed and as public consciousness.

Contrary to popular representations, Gauls didn't carry the helmets topped with horns. In one burial of an era of Gauls and Vikings, it was not found any similar helmet. In a helmet it is inconvenient to battle to horns, it can be brought down, having only a little touched at blow.

Actually, helmets with horns belong to the Bronze age (1500-500 BC) and served as ritual headdresses of priests. It is possible to assume also that the helmet with horns by way of exception could rush as an ornament.

For all history of archeological excavations only two helmets with horns were found. These helmets were ritual. Never rushed simple soldiers

The unique image of a horned helmet at Vikings – on the picture found by the Osebergsky ship of the IX century. Found thousands different helmets - peaked and tupokonechny, decorated and isn't present, found even pair of helmets with wings as at Hermes, but any horned. Gauls and Vikings, contrary to a popular belief, simply didn't carry horned helmets. So real ritual helmets with horns looked. Further such image of the horned Gaul was created by artists and visionaries

Every time that Pegaso came with a new figure this happen o_O
Really like this bust, with horns or without it, if you don't like horns just remove it with Dremel tool and the rest of the job with some magic sculpt..

the bust is very beautiful. let's consider that it is the hero of comedians about Gauls, or the character of a fantasy)

Clearly from what has gone before this is not a museum representation of a Gaul, it is however a great piece of art, the sculpting and painting are probably as good as it gets in my opinion and I am sure it will be a good seller for Pegaso. Funnily enough last night I was watching a progamme about Wolfe in Canada. The famous picture of his death painted by American Artist Benjamin West is full of inaccuracies but recognised as a great piece of art......one of the most reproduced pieces of art of its time according to the commentary. I hope Pegaso are equally as successful.

If you bring together fentezi-that it is very beautiful and good bust. If you collect a military and historical miniature, this bust is possible.

I totally agree with you Ernesto.

me too the helmet seems a lot ... Viking - with the riveted border and central reinforcement - but maybe the researcher is in possession of documentation that I don't know.

I'd give my eye teeth to see the references used. Steel horns, really?

This is a brilliant example of something that's had to be said many far too many times before - about how little additional effort it would have taken to make a much better representation of the supposed subject.

Easy there Tiger, nobodys died cos he's got metal horns. I think it's a stunning bust. But maybe your right and might be tempted to do a couple of yeras reasearch on the subject so I can sleep soundly knowing everythings gonna be ok cos he's not got metal horns.

Steel horns...I know...ridiculous..and with kids looking at this forum.

Easy there Tiger yourself. I don't appreciate the sarcasm - especially considering all the postings in the thread WRT their dubious authenticity.

Not sarcasm mate..Just genuine concern. Don't let it get it you. Maybe if you wrote to Pegaso correcting them they will perhaps do an awful lot more important reasearch so people aren't so offended.

Can I offera fairly simple solution which seems to be missing here. Its a model, did anyone claim its 100% accurate or even 10% accurate?
If you like it buy it then paint it and enjoy it. If you dont like the horns, buy it complain to Pegaso, take the horns off, paint it and enjoy it. If you really have a problem, dont buy it dont paint it and whatever you do, dont enjoy it

Don.
