Practice and experimentation worked well for me; the digi-cam doesn't behave the way my film camera did. The great part is, obviously, that the results are instantaneous and the learning process pretty rapid.
a couple general things to start with: they don't require as much light as film, and seem to have greater depth of field; never use a flash; use the shutter timer if it won't accept a cable release; and be sure to set the "white balance" to achieve accurate colors. Hope that helps some, have fun.
