Very nice indeed but he is no Avar heavy horseman, Carlist wars for sure and a stunning figure to boot.

Indeed. He was the most important general on the Carlist side in the First Carlist War.

Sadly my knowledge of Spanish history is not great, that said I like the figures and uniforms far more than knowing the history. I really like the variety of uniforms Spanish military history throws up, in fact one of my next projects is my own make of a Husare de Pavia, please accept my apologies if my spelling or syntax is all wrong.
