Thanks to Mick (mick3272) who came up with the idea, and contributed the first material we now have a new forum section dedicated to Uniform Reference. Also big thanks to Babelfish for his help in designing and organizing it.

You can find it at the bottom of the forum list or using this link:

http://www.planetfigure.com/categories/uniform-reference.129/

The forums are divided into 20 categories by era with additional 'Miscellaneous' to manage contributions not related to any specific time.

Anyone can post, however all new posts will have to be approved before appearing in the forums. We want to keep it organized! Frequent contributors will be invited to an Editors group to help oversee the project.

The posting guidelines (also drafted by Mick):

The aim of the Uniform Reference Section is to share Photographic images, or Movie Clips believed to be authentic items of actual Uniforms or Equipment Only.
These reference threads are not intended for discussion, should you wish to engage in discussion please initiate a separate post in an appropriate forum.

Posting.
If you wish to post an image. eg 11th Hussars Jacket C 1854. Go to the relevant Era (Crimea). Look to see if a thread already exists, if YES post image in existing thread, if NO create a thread 11th Hussars ( Prince Albert’s Own). and post your image. In some era’s you may feel that there not enough images to warrant a Regiment having its own thread, so you may feel it best to post under Groupings i.e. in the Napoleonic Era, you would post British Light Cavalry or French Heavy Cavalry .
Posts should contain the following: Heading, image/s, Description and any relevant information.

Posts
Obviously nothing should be posted that is specifically marked as copyrighted on the source website. In such cases we should just link to the original article. There is also a concept of Fair Use in the copyright law that may allow us to use some pictures for research purposes. We should always respect the rights of an image owner. Any images taken from the web links should be shown.

I would like to say that the idea was already out there in reviews etc, this will hopefully put it all under one roof. All the hard work was done by the Editors Groupe So a BIG THANK YOU to you all to get this off the ground.
Last but not least Thank you all, who contribute and make use of it.

Thanks Again
Mick

This is an excellent addition to the site. There is so much information out there concerning the subject of uniforms that I'm sure it will become a very handy tool in the future.

It's especially relevant for you of course Old Trousers because the forum is indeed about old trousers.....

Thanks for implementing the reference section! I like your procedure to review posts, too, before publishing. That will help keep things organized, and having a second set of eyes review something is a good QA procedure.

Prost!
Brad
