Sean-

Welcome! :)

From what I can see, these looks really nice and a well structured vignette. I am glad you shared them.

I'd love to see more details on the individual figures. Same goes for the flag.

Welcome to the planet! Glad to see you took the step to show us your work!

Your dio looks very nice indeed! I like how you cut the base to show a little more contours of the ground rather then just flat!

Would also like to see some close ups!

Keep it up!

Nice work Sean. Would it be possible to get close up pics of the figures so we can see them better? Your scene is well done, with the figures nicely posed and painted. What are these guys painted with? One thing about it though, there seems to be quite a bit of space between the Rebs and Federals. While dead space is usually frowned upon, I can see how it may be necessary in this scene, as it shows how much ground the men have to cross while under fire and makes it more dramatic. Unless this is the first assault on this position, maybe things like abandoned caps, cartridge boxes, and maybe a wounded or dead figure would make it a little more interesting. I think you do need the space between them, or it just won't work. Just my thoughts on it.

It looks like you've done a nice clean job on the figures. I like the charging union soldiers especially well. The dead space and loose composition takes away from the drama though IMO.

If a person was lucky enough to pick up some of the unique Shaper's Design bases at Chicago they had some that were uniquely suited to this type of concept. They were two working surfaces seperated in space connected within the same piece of wood. One of these would have been terrific for this thing because it would have eliminated the dead space, yet kept the subjects connected in concept. Normally this would be more effective as two seperate, but related dios.

Hello all,

Thank you for the comments. As soon as I can figure out how to get some extreme close-ups, I will have them posted.

Evan and John: I know what you mean about the dead space. I thought about it for some time and thought that if I muddied up the groung a bit between Rebs and Yanks, it might fill some of that space (enough to get away with anyway).

Evan: The figures were painted with acrylics.

John: I will take a look into the Sharper's Design bases. Wish I would have known before starting the project.

Again, thank you all for your comments. They are much wecomed and appreciated.

Sean

Let's see if this worked

Sean, Welcome to the Planet, I'm sure you'll find this the best figure site on the net. Nice clean work. Do you have other pieces to show?

John, Sorry if I'm out of touch, but what are Sharper Design bases? I've never heard of of them.~Gary

Hello Gary,

Yes, I agree that this "is" the best figure sight on the net. Many gifted painters out there! Thank you for your comments. I do have a few more pieces that I will post in the future. Again, thanks for having a look.

Sean,

I don't know what he has left. He quit making them. Call The Hussar at (918) 492-3559, Mike should be able to direct you. You may get Steve Scott, who is who you really want, but is sometimes hard to get a hold of. Shaper's Design had some wierd and different shapes, not the typical square and round bases. Good Luck.

Hey John,

Thanks for the additional info. I will see if there are any left. Again, I appreciate your observation on the dio. I think I will take your (and Evans) advice and try to add a bit more in the dead space.

Sean

Steve Scott is also a member of the planet. His nick is "Redleg". Just find him on the members roster, and click "send email" and he will get an email from you.
