Greetings, :)
Since I'm new here, I thought I should introduce myself.
My name is Bill Wiseman (though most people know me as Doc) and I'm a modelholic.

I built my first model at 4 years of age and have been at it without interruption for 36 years.

I have just recently become serious about painting figures. I had painted figures for dioramas with limited sucess. I have finished about 10 figures and have another half dozen in progress. I have found a fondness for 54 MM figures; mostly Knights and Ancients (Vikings, Celts & Romans) and for Busts. I have also dabbled in 120 MM and large vinyls.

The Joke around the clubs I belong to is that I build anything that comes in a cardboard box. Which is somewhat true. I'll build anything somebody pays me to build. i build for commission which helps pay for my obsession. I have models in Museums and Private collections around the country.

When I build for myself I build:
Armor- WWII Allied especially Russian, and Modern Russian and Israeli.
Heavy Commercial Vehicles- Wreckers, Fire/Rescue apparatus, and Earth Movers
Aircraft - WWI Fighters, US Navy and Marine Corps all eras
Automotive- NON NASCAR Race cars, NHRA, F1, SCCA, WRC, ALMS

On a more personal note, I'm originally from San Diego CA; the son of a career US Navy man. I grew up on bases all over the world and on my mother's family's Dairy farm in upstate NY. I spent the school year with my parents (where ever they were) and summers on the farm.

I served 13 years in the US Navy starting as an Aviation Boatswains Mate and cross rating to Corpsman (hence "Doc"). I served as a Medic with the Marines in Beruit, Bosnia, Panama, and Desert Storm. I also spent 2 years on a shore assignment with the Corpsman Assignment Center at the National Medical Center in Bethesda. During that time I was sent on temporary assignments all over the world.

I am married 15 years (today as a matter of fact) to a VERY understanding woman. We have no children though we raise, train and show Austrailian Shepherds.

I am a Lieutenant in the City of Newburgh Fire Department where I'm currently assigned to the Fire Investigation Unit.

I belong to IPMS USA where I am the President Elect of IPMS Mid Hudson Valley. I belong to AMPS through their Connecticut Chapter. A member of HMGS (Historical Miniatuers Gaming Society), and MFCA. I am also a member of the Town of Newburgh Model Car Club.

When I'm not building models, I'm a student Pilot with 10 hours, I'm a Masters Degree Candidate in Fire Protection Management, and I am a student of History and Ancient and Eastern Philosophies .

Bored Yet??
Enough about me let's talk figures!

Welcome Doc,

I have to agree that this is a great site with a lot of talented people and they are all willing to help. I too am a former Police officer and Fireman. I respect your job and thanks for doing it! (y)

Hello Doc, glad to have you aboard. If at any time you have any questions or problems, just throw it out on the board and someone will answer you. Hope you can post some of your figures as well. Being from upstate New York, I can relate to your summers on the farm. Spent mine on my grandmothers farm in Afton, NY.

welcome from another newbie, and congratulations to you both, australian shepards for those who do not know are dogs, not a little known military sharpshooter unit,

(y) Thanks to you all for the warm welcome.

I will post pictures when one of two things happen One: I can coerce my camera and computer to speak to each other again or Two:I can get to the photo lab with, dare I say it, Film and get pix on disc.

I spent the morning researching Heraldry for the Teutonic Order of the 13th and 14 Centuries. Looks like I'm in for a "treat" when I get to the shields on these fellows.

Oh and by the way, Gun Dogs aren't all that bad. I live with one of those too. She was supposed to be my Accelerant Detection K-9 but we found out her back and hips were way screwed up so she was washed out of the program. They gave me a choice; keep her as a pet and go to the end of the list for another dog or put her down and get the next pup. After 8 months of living with her, I didn't have heart to put her down. So we're back at the bottom of the list again and I have an 85 pound yellow tornado in the house.
