I've been off the scene for a few years and recently hit upon the idea of an online community where modellers can share their recipes for paintjobs in one webspace. The blog is in a very rough early phase and I would very much appreciate input from modellers worldwide to help fill the pages and add to the links. I would like this to be a success and welcome constructive comments.

Rip Snorter of an idea!!!

this, I could see, would be helpful to someone new to the hobby, or new to a medium, acrylics, oils, enamels.

Took me a while to learn that there is more then adding black or white to a colour for highlights and shadows.

Thinking about one way of tackling it
I would segment it down to the different media (oils, Enamels, Acrylics) for specific handling tips and ideas (Oils long drying versus Acrylics quick time)

Some general recipes, and would be interesting to see how others tackle challenging colours, such as Red, Blue, Yellow, White, Back....

cheers

blog is a great idea

Although I have been painting figures since 1964 I have never had the opportunity to interact with other figure painters. It was only this year that I discovered sites like PF. I especially enjoy the input on technique and color mixing. It is wonderful to see how I could have overcome many of the obstacles that baffled me through the years. This and a pair of vision restoring contacts has rekindled my attack on my large grey army.

Great idea.

Thanks fellas

Seems I've hit upon a good idea. My main concern is that the blog is easy to follow and also that the content is of a quality which conveys the aims well. Will be interesting to see who contributes first. I will do my best to make it readable and keep an easy overview.

Well, here's how Ive recorded my colour mixes...

bit scruffy and less then tidy, but I did them quickly, while the acrylic was still wet:)

If this is something that you could use, in that format, more then happy to tidy up and post fresh pictures...

Left one is Andreas colour swatch for white, the right one is what I used for Pegasos centurion, 75mm.

cheers

Jamie that's exactly what I'm after. Email me a bit more text and some pics of the finished figure and I will submit it to the blog.

Sounds like a very good idea. There's so much information out there and anything that can be done to consolidate it for easier retrieval would be very helpful.

Ok Martin,
happy to share.
I presume to your hotmail address?
As a word document,, with pix attached.? what suits you best?

I've got two figures under my belt to date, and use acrylics at this point. But to get the ball rolling, sure!!

I'll type up something this weekend, for Monday 2nd March

Cheers

PS; I can think of some others here who might be able to share their work. Christos, Major Goose, two that leap to mind, also Tony Dawe and Gothic Geek. Einion is also a wealth of colour information. There are a whole host of others, far more experienced and talented then me, so if they could contribute too, well, off to a truly great start.

I like the concept and I'm happy to contribute what I can.

It seems there are some uniform colours that always present a challenge, such as Napoleonic Blue. If we could have a resource which tells you how to mix authentic uniform colours, in a variety of different paint mediums, that would be extremely useful.

The difficulty of an online resource is that colours can be distorted by the quality and resolution of the computer screen, so all colours need to have written colour references for a variety of different paint manufacturers. I use Vallejo acrylics, but wouldn't have a clue about equivalent acrylic colours in Andrea or Games Workshop.

Any got a solution??
