I've not painted any busts, but I think I might have to now.

Simply, this is outstanding. I love the character of the figure and I love the subject.

My only fear is that I could never replicate that superb box art!

Fantastic figure!

Many thanks for the comments and support guy's, it means a lot and keeps you striving to bring out more and to push forward.

Cheers

Stuart

Many thanks again for your kind words.

The rifle I can assure you is quite a chunky piece of resin.

I have one of these rifles and that is the reason why I commented on the size, looks small to me, look at the figures finger then the trigger guard?
Agian this is one that I will pick up as soon as I see it for sale.

I hate to have to be the one to point this out on such an astounding piece, but it's very obvious that the Gordon's capbadge isn't quite right. It's not a long way wide of the mark but it is enough to make it look "strange". The stag's horns stick up far too much and the rock-ivy wreath isn't the right shape.

For those who might want to correct this on their castings before painting, this is an actual WW1-era Gordon Highlander's OR's badge (officer's badges were slightly different). Note carefully the "roundness" of the rock-ivy wreath, the size of the ducal coronet and the shape of the stag's antlers:

IMHO this is perhaps the most attractive of the British army's badges so it's a real pity not to get it right (to say nothing of the fact that three generations of my family were Gordons. One of my great-grandpas could actually have been this sergeant!). I notice the badge on that WW1 Gordon's piper bust that came out a while ago had the same problem. Is this by the same artist?

The rest of the bust is totally amazing, though.

Great looking piece, the rifle looks a wee bit on the small size.

I have the same vague feeling too. There's also apparently a little problem with the positioning of the rifle once the bust on its plinth is fixed to a base. The rifle sits far too high up and the sling then doesn't go to the sling swivel on the band around the forestock (I see it does this correctly in the pictures of the unpainted model, but then the rifle butt hangs quite a way below the plinth). On the painted piece the sling doesn't attach to anything once it goes over his right shoulder.

The nose cap is also missing the big and very conspicuous bayonet lug. I'd have expected to see that in this scale. It's easy enough to add, though, I suppose:

Stuart showed me this piece at Euro and as I said to him, this could be my Grandfather, without the stripes.
Didnt notice the swivel attachment missing on the one I held so I think its a tiny oversight on someones part. I am sure there was one there, the bayonet lug is no big deal to add.
As this is I believe a Mk4 SMLE I dont think it looks to small, Like Chris I used to own one so we will have to disagree with that. If you do get one Chris I would be delighted if you compare it to you own weapon.
Tiny modification to the badge and we are smoking.
Will have to have one of these, its super and Mark has done a lovely job of the painting.

This is definitely one for my collection. With a small conversion to a Cameron Highlander this is my grandfather. Superb from Mr Reid once again

It is a must have indeed Don. I remember very well my granny singing
"A Gordon for me, a Gordon for me, if you're no a Gordon your nae guid tae me"............My grandfather was HLI??

A great sculpt Carl and a great paint job Mark - skin tone bang on

Regards
