Yes chaps !! a souperby here all round, great painting Mark BTW, yes a few issues with the rifle and cap badge, but easy stuff to convert if necessary.

well Marks painting as Mr Reids sculpting brought me to order one.HE DID IT AGAIN.thats very bad for the wallet to show here such things.....

Great looking piece, the rifle looks a wee bit on the small size.
Mrosko

The 1908 Lee Enfield MkIII was 1130mm long, the piece is 1:9th scale.
If you divide 1130mm by 9 it equates to 125mm long. I have checked the measurement today of the rifle on the piece and it's 125mm long.

Here is a link that gives you the measurements in the right hand column. it clearly states 1130mm long.

Also here is an image of the day that shows how short the rifle actually was in relation to the man.

I hope this goes some way to clear up any misunderstanding

Thanks

Carl

I hate to have to be the one to point this out on such an astounding piece, but it's very obvious that the Gordon's capbadge isn't quite right. It's not a long way wide of the mark but it is enough to make it look "strange". The stag's horns stick up far too much and the rock-ivy wreath isn't the right shape.

For those who might want to correct this on their castings before painting, this is an actual WW1-era Gordon Highlander's OR's badge (officer's badges were slightly different). Note carefully the "roundness" of the rock-ivy wreath, the size of the ducal coronet and the shape of the stag's antlers:

IMHO this is perhaps the most attractive of the British army's badges so it's a real pity not to get it right (to say nothing of the fact that three generations of my family were Gordons. One of my great-grandpas could actually have been this sergeant!). I notice the badge on that WW1 Gordon's piper bust that came out a while ago had the same problem. Is this by the same artist?

The rest of the bust is totally amazing, though.

Harry;

These are some interesting points you raise.

I have attached the image used as reference for the cap badge. As you can see it is only a painting admittedly, but it is by the leading historian and artist Mike Chappell. Probably one of the worlds leading authorities on WW1 british history.

With regards to the Lee Enfield I would like to direct you to the reply I gave to Chris in a previous post.

Thank you for your input!

I hope this goes some way to explain your points

Carl

Find pictures of a full picture from a GHL with his gun. It is a picture of David Anderson in WW 1.
I think Carl has the right measurement if I look good enough.

Anyway: Domino will have some on our show, and there is one for me.

Wow , thanks everybody.

I've had this superb sculpt of carl's since august 2010. Due to various problems I've held it back. A lot of people saw it at euro.

I'd like to thank everybody for their support and encouaragement, I'd like to thank carl for a simply sublime piece of sculpture. The face is just so full of character and is simply that epitome of a true hard and proud scot.

marks painting is just improving all the time. His v bench is fantastic in what he gives us all in his indepth tutorials in how he does it. I couldn't do it so big up massive from me mate and many thanks .

Cheers and theirs more coming

Stu
