Whilst it is not a conventional Napoleon we are used to, I think painting let it down more than anything else....

I've seen so many differing images of Napoleon in classical painting and sculpted works that I can't imagine how anyone can definitively state that any image is incorrect.
Of course if he has his hand tucked inside his jacket he's quite clearly Napoleon.
Our own perceptions and indeed prejudices of historical figures can easily form images which may not resemble the truth at all.
Take the currently available and indeed popular images of Boudicca, 300's Leonidas, Robin Hood etc.
Can't figure how anyone can be so certain this is not Napoleon.
As Dimitry has said the painting may not do this one any favours.

I am a fan of looking at the bare resin, paint jobs can make bad model look good and a good model look crap.
I agree with you. from those pics it looks superb, the paint job does not look good, its almost like they rounded the cheeks in the paint job?

Not sure what the young hate is about, they are still releasing some of the best busts on the market. My buddy got the new WW1 stormtrooper bust and its magnificent.
If the "hollywood" busts didn't sell he would not make more of them, they obviously must be doing well for him.

I must say that seeing the original sculpture bring down some of my initial concerns regarding this figure.

I think that the figure is quite good, nice pose, nice details. However, tha painting doesn't do justice.
Someone already said Diego's face painting has "coal miner" look. Well, I totally agree! I've seen paintings by him that absolute love, and others I quite loathe.
Some of his skills are very good to achieve worn out, dirty, looks, but for other types of figures it doesn't work at all, being this figure a good example.
Another example, the German Machine Gunner by Life Minitures, also sculpted and painted by this duo. I like the figure, but didn't have the "wow" effect on me that normally other products of this brand have. For me it was all about the painting.
Not that Diego isn't a great painter, who am I to say that. But sometimes (a lot of times) it just doesn't work for me, making me totally agree with Blind Pew and wonder why his painting doesn't provoke comments. But this is just my opinion and my personal taste.

In the end I would call this a miscast by Young Miniatures and I would like see this figure painted by another person before even think of buying it.

Regards
Pedro

the stormtrooper in grey has wow factor, I wish manufacturers would show the bare resin in addition to the box art.

I agree, being probably old fashioned I prefer to see the unpainted product, for the box art, be it good or bad, is always an interpretation of how a particular painter approaches the subject. A splendid spectacular box art by someone like Pepa Saavedra or Kyrill Kanaev may boost sales, but they have very little value for the oil painter for instance. On the other hand the at times atrocious box art of some Verlinden busts might put of potential buyers from an otherwise very nice bust. But of course that's where the Reviews & Open Box does sterling work!

Seeing it in resin makes a difference - it really does look better than the painted example. Still not sure if there will be much demand for another Napoleon though.

Cheers

I must say that this bust really disappoint me.
YOUNG accustomed us to something else.
The face is really not one to which we are accustomed.
The painting is superb, however, pose very interresting
Let us return to the true face of the Emperor
The only real trace of his face remains death mask made in Saint Helena.

The other true reminders of who was napoleon are the multiple portrait paintings done of the Emperor by David, etc. These portraits were done live and all look like this death mask.

This sculpt of Napoleon is off.
