Previously I have commented on the number of figures I have purchased over the preceding 12 months where on opening the box I have found that one of more pieces are missing.

In 2015 I had three instances, all of which were annoying, although in each case the manufacturer was very apologetic and supplied the missing parts in a reasonable amount of time.

My plea is for all businesses at the beginning of this new year to look again at their packing processes to see if the incidence of missing items can be reduced. When profit margins are under more pressure than ever it cannot be good business to have avoidable extra cost of dealing with customer complaints and extra postage costs sending missing parts out.

I would also like to start a debate this year on the increasing use of tin boxes to pack model figures. While such presentation boxes do look good I do wonder if they are as environmentally friendly compared to a sturdy recycled cardboard box. Yes, I know tin boxes can be recycled, but I suspect they cost more to manufacture compared to cardboard, and of course that is a price that is in the end is passed onto the buyer in a higher purchase price.

My preference is for paper based packaging to be used whenever possible, however I would welcome comments from manufacturers and other figure modellers as to their feelings on the use of tin boxes in this hobby.

Lastly, can I also take this opportunity to wish everybody involved in this wonderful hobby a fantastic 2016 figure making and painting.
