Greetings!

I used to take a look at this page, and finally I decided to make a post. I think it's correct to let people see my works, if I can see theirs:)
So, here I am. Just some information about myself: I'm 19, I live in hungary, I'm into modelling for several years, but with many breaks, so I'm still an amateur:)
I have very little experience in sculpting -I've completed only 3-4 serious figures-, but I wish to prove my skills, so I hope I will get some advices, and critics here.
I'm interested in fantasy figures, mostly around 28mm... I know, that on this site it's a rare topic, but I hope you'll like it.:)
Now, let's see... I'm working on a 2 part (maybe it will be 3 in the future) composition, featuring a necromancer and his familiar... the necromancer is 32mm tall (to the eyes) and the gnome is 17mm. I used milliput, greenstuff, magic sculp, and different mixtures of these materials:)
They still need some work, still many mistakes on them, but I think there will be no great changes. I hope you like it, and hope to get some constructive critics:D
Now, let me send this work as a tribute to all the professionals on this page. Thanks for seeing.
Blind.

Szervusz!,

nice to see your figures, i am just learning to paint figures still myself (still new to figures) but these are getting there. i would just reccomend that you put a bit more fold into the cloak. Just a little bit about myself, all 4 of my grandparents are from hungary so i can speak and write a little bit of it myself :D

Love em!:D
Lots of drama and feel to to the characters.
Very theatrical.
Hope you don't loose the power by adding too much distracting detail!

A good bit of advice I received from a master sculptor was to buy a few books with good pics of athletes/ sportsmen and use them as reference for sculpting. For fantasy figures, you may also like to get some books showing weightlifters, wrestlers and competitive body builders. This should help with creating "realistic" fantasy muscles and body proportions.

Keep up the good work and don't stop showing pics of your work. We can all learn something from you.

Welcome and keep up the good work! Sculpting involves a lot of eye and hand coordination and motor skills, so practice, practice, practice. Since you are just starting out, I recommend keeping a photographic record of each sculpt for reference. Burne Hogarth's book, Dynamic Wrinkles and Drapery is a great reference on doing clothing. I refer to it a lot. To avoid dermatitis from the putty, I suggest that you use thin rubber gloves when mixing and working with it, not bare hands. Also try to work in a well-ventilated area to avoid breathing in the resin:activator vapors.

All the best,
Dan

All great advice, but also remember besides looking at reference pics, do take some time to study figurative sculpture/painting/drawing from all ages from ancient to modern.
And you don't have to practice your anatomy working small, you can get your self a lump of modelling wax and play at a larger scale, this can really help.

Study study study, good artists never stop learning!

Have fun!:D

Hy Blind!

(Hm, what a name! ;)) Wellcome on the site! I think you have at home all books and references what about Tony has writen here. As I have told earlier you are a very talented sculptor, "just" you must learn the anatomy and you can do it. With this fantasy you will build fantastic vignettes!

Cheers,
Balázs

A good start, Blind. Just keep practicing and studying anatomy. :)

And a few of us around here do like the smaller scales. :D

Greetings!

Thanks for the kind words, I'm happy that you liked them...:)
And thaks for all the advices! Really.:D
Well, I've done some painting on the guy. Still much to do, mostly with contours and contrasts... but anyway, it will look like this at the end.
On the cloak, I tried to paint figures like in medieval 'dance of death'-paintings (I don't know how it's in english, but it's 'Totentanz' in german, and I think its 'danse macabre' in french...), but I tried to simplify the figures according to the overall feeling of the figure, and of course the scale...;)
I used Vallejo acrylics.
Not the best photos... :(sorry, I'm learning that too...:)
Hope you like it, and again: many thanks for your kindness!

You have made a good start. As you know there are many talented sculptors in the Planet willing and able to help, all you have to do is ask.

Cheers

Greetings!

I'm here again... I kept on working on these two, and for now I can show some more pictures, this time form the little gnome:)
Not finished yet... still want to work on the flesh and on the torusers, and I need to do the overall contours, make some dirt on the clothes... so much to do.
I used Valleho acrylics again.
Not the best pics again, the colours are too strong, and it's shining... don't know why:confused:
Again, thank you all for the comments and advices.

Zoltán.
