hello
interesting.there is surely one possibilitie take it was falsely restored like many items found in the last centuries.one thinks here one some helmets from pompeji.or they where added later by an over affectioned collector.not all item in museums do come from official digging.some where purchased from various sources.and so often even clever fakes where aquired.even if its real and belonging to gether this is.....
surely this is not an fighting helmet.the classic shape of it is an montfortino in bronce.so maybe as funeral piece or for ritual use those horns where added.or one can remove them like the crests on roman helmets.and those horns where added in an parade and where made removable.in no case this helmet is battleworthy with attached horns..simply because you always when delivering an slash you ram your arm against the horns.this would either hurt the arm or knock of the helmet and such bring the fighter out of control.its like the way when british military wore the tricorn hat.the grenadiers which tossed grenades had the high tall grenadier hat simply because the would have knocked their had off with any throw overshoulder.
so its simply unlogic to use such an helmet in battle.it would be very interesting to see the alingment of them.are they slotted in and can be removed then its an parade crest-or are they integral part then its n funeral or ritual helmet.often such items where placed in an weapon trophy asembled from arms from fallen foes on ritual sacred grounds.
in any case an interesting item.pitty that so much stuff is in the depot and is not shown in publications or in exibitions
cheers

Hello Markus,
I agree with your explanation, these horns are clearly an addition to the basic celt helmet. It is clearly vissible, that these horns were removable. Not a think to use this fully arrangend helmet in the fight. It is a possible funeral item, that should say, that the burried celt was at least a very strong and powerfull chief of the clan.
As to the figure, this item helped me make up myself to buy this figure and to paint it as it is. At least it is not completely fantasy:)

hello robert yes its in any case an handsome sculpt.there may some more things not 100 percent accurate.well butnobody was present of us at their date.in any case its surely an impressive thing.its uited as well because he does not wield his sword
well lets say he horned his helmet and stands in the last battle line to overlook the front line.in any case the pic of the helmet showed again how many interesting items have made it over the time.the orginal is an impressive variant of the normaly quite plain montefortino helmets.
thanks for showing it+cheers

Dear friends, allow me to intervene.
In all honesty I did not know this report, but also it gave me the impression that the position of the horns was very strange.
there is no doubt that the photo shows the same finding as it has been rebuilt, but the fact remains doubt about the correct assembly of the product.
much more often than you might think, in fact, the curators of the museums run into big mistakes;
look, for example, the finding in photo (helmet "Montefortino" type, Osprey Battle Orders n° 27, page 28): this artifact is in three parts, the two cheekguards and the tile; two (!) of three parts were placed in reverse, and so the neckguard has become a visor!
many specimens are broken into fragments recovered (for example carnyx of Tintignac) and only the careful study of experts will lead to the exact assembly of manufactured goods, but unfortunately, very often, this does not happen!
I also, for the construction of the picenian warrior, I left "seduced" by the spectacle of the helmet; if I only based on the "little bronze" I would appear to make the Tartar Miniaturs a year ago, but I preferred to look for other findings that confirm the helmet with horns and ears, and only after I started the work of sculpture.
Unfortunately, however, there are many scientists (and companies) who, dazzled by the originality of a finding and the fact that they can be the first to the present, are based on an only source and ... "give birth" a figure.
I will say more: the owner of a famous company contacted me something like: "dear Secutor, I saw a shield that I like, that I can realize a soldier?"
is how to rebuild a tank from a track!
and just from a helmet (even well-studied) a firm has lately been made a figure ....
Robert
