Tommy Atkins
A Fixture
Morning everyone! My name is Pete and I am a new 'signed up' member, although I have been a keen visitor to PF for some time. After seeing so much fantastic work I have finally decided to bite the bullet and put my latest piece on here. I am keen to know what you chaps think!
It is my version of the Young Miniatures 1/10 resin bust of a Norman Knight at Hastings. I painted it mostly in Humbrol enamels, with a small amount of Vallejo, printer's inks and Darkstar metallics here and there. I did make a few minor adjustments to mine- the main one being cutting down the nasal bar on the helmet slightly to get a better view of the face. I also added a couple of leather thongs which would have served to tie up the coif when in action, just made from thin strips of lead sheet. I decided to portray him as a foot soldier rather than a knight because of the axe that he is carrying. I have a copy of the Bayeux Tapestry and couldn't see any of the knights pictured there with axes.
I tried to give the helmet an old battered 'painted look' but I'm not too sure about the final result. I really enjoyed making the bust which took ages because I am a very slow painter. Anyway, here he is (my wife has decided to name him Philippe!) and I hope that you like him.
