Since past week I was working on a small proyect in 70mm. I wanted to paint 2 soldiers of the United States civil war (1861 more or less), one of each side. I never painted something of this war, but as I'm going to go to Philadelphia next month to MFCA show, my monkey friends thought it could be a great idea to do so they convince me.

First one was the Scale75 "casualty toll" miniature and second one is the "Southern Pride" from Heroes & Villains Farenheit miniature project. In this one I had Piqui's cooperation doing terrain that I think it's based on the film "Gone with the wind".

I want to thank for their help to Pepe Gallardo and Gregorio Galan who helped me with the information and uniform's colour (specially in the last one that I found that details could be in red, green, yellow, blue and black and I was becoming crazy).

hope you like 'em

Hi Arsies,
And the two miniatures are amazing and painted scenes in the second photo we believe it is something other than a battleground.

Thank you all.

You now i've not so much knowledge about civil war, and someone told me that in fact both soldiers are confederated (southern ones). Anyone can give some light about this?
I really thought blue uniiform was northen one. Hope at last all colours are fine even if I painted another army than I thought xD

Wow, I like the two figures, it is a period that attracts me and I hope someday some figure painting.
Very good job with the blues and grays, I also really like the blood effects on the soldier of the Union, are made with oils?

Yes, both are confederates. The seated one looks like an infantry officer and the standing one, artillery. While generally speaking, the Union wore dark blue and the Confederacy gray, in practice this is not an absolute. Many Union militia units wore gray at the beginning of the war. The "blue" of your infantry officer is actually more like blue-gray and not unusual for confederate officers who often had better made uniforms.

Yeah, what Mike said. Union blue was very dark. The only other distinction is the rank emblems on the coat collars. The Hungarian knot-styled lace on the seated figures forearms is most often associated with Southern troops but that is not absolute. Same for the lace on the caps. Officers of both armies used this style. I think Northern officer's cap lace was more often black than gold, but again it is not absolute. So you have two very well done Southern gentlemen!

I agree with Steve and bonehead about colour... The blue was so dark as to almost be black.
Beyond that, the paint work you've done here is excellent!

Good job

Colin
