Hi Planeteers,

Here's some progress shots of the dio I'm currently working on. It's from the famous photograph taken by Robert Capa in Notre Dame de Cenilly, 30th July 1944 (copyright Cornell Capa).

The photo shows Untersturmfuhrer Peters of III/SS.Pz.Gren.Regt.37, SS.Pz.Div.17 'Gotz von Berlichingen' being searched by Lt. Paul Unger of the Military Police company, 2nd Armored Division 'Hell on Wheels'. In the background a line of Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe and SS prisoners (but the five I'm modeling are all Wehrmacht).

The plan is to model the facade of the haberdashery shop as well, up to roof level. I'm traveling to Normandy in the summer, so will take the measurements then. I'm guessing the facade will be about 40-50cm high. I'm hoping to laser cut and etch the building, but might have to resort to putty for the stonework.

I'm currently working on the figure of Unger, and when he's up to the level of the others I'll start on the hands........all 14 of them! All insignia will be from photoetch.

Cheers,
Jon.

Jon you have captured the features of the soldier being searched very well looking at the image, nice work on the faces. I think this will be a very rewarding project.

Hello all,

After months of inactivity I thought I'd post an update on how far I've got with this group, mainly to give myself a much needed kick up the butt to get it finished!

There are some huge mistakes that in an ideal world I'd like to rectify, but the desire to finish this and move on to the next project means I'm just not willing to to do any major surgery.

As you can see in this shot all the figs now have arms and hands..

Thanks guys, this is the kind of inspiration I need. Cheers!

I did go to Normandy in the summer, and my mate made a huge detour to pop down to Notre Dame de Cenilly on my behalf (cheers Sly!) so that I could photograph the building as it is now. here's the comparison...
