Astérix in space - a state-staged fraud...!
On November 26, 1965, the first rocket launch takes place, in which neither the Soviet Union nor the USA are technologically involved:
France launches from Algerian (then French) Hammaguir on a Diamond A rocket...
... successfully the satellite "Astérix"...:
"Astérix" (which was originally going to be called "Zebulon" after another comic book character, but was rejected) has a diameter of 550 mm and an overall height of 536 mm.
The satellite does not carry any scientific instruments, but is only used to check the function of the launch vehicle.
While the launch was successful, everything else is a carefully orchestrated scam on the French public:
Although the observation stations reported after a few minutes that "Astérix" was not sending any signals, the Ministry of the Armed Forces (Ministère des Armées) distributed a prepared press release in the evening, reporting that the satellite was functioning properly.
Meanwhile, the radio broadcasts beeps that do not come from space, but have been pre-recorded.
Nevertheless, the French state celebrated the 50th anniversary of "Astérix" the satellite with triangular commemorative stamps in November 2015...:
