Hi Wayne, thank you and everyone else for your comments.
The WIP was truly pathetic lol, I did 2 nights at work to do the face so couldn't take any pictures and the torso was painted on a club Sunday.
I'll add the Photobucket link then an explanation.
So, how I do eyes might not be the right way or best but works for me.
All paints are Vallejo acrylics.
Firstly the eyeball itself, don't paint it white, add a spot of black or dark grey to make an off white.
I give the eyeball a wash of heavily thinned red, then use a damp brush to remove the excess, concentrate more red/pink colour towards where the tear ducts are, or some busts there's a real deep hole there, I fill it with paint normally.
The process works for any eye colour, make lifev more complicated by painting multi colour eyes and flecks with a 10/0 brush.
I did a Google search for Orlando Blooms eye colour as the figure is based on him, the iris was painted chocolate brown, I use a 5/0 kolinsky sable with very the tip cut off to make a squared end, makes for painting circles a bit easier.
The center is painted with chocolate brown + flat earth + a small amount of white, the light was coming from his left so I added an even lighter highlight on his right of the bottom of the iris, from say 5 o'clock to 10 o'clock, don't do all the way to the top as the eyelid casts a shadow on the eye and that little bit of remaining base colour replicates that.
The pupil is painted black with a touch of white, NATO grey could work as well, then a reflection dot of white just above and to the right of the pupil, wait a day till everything it properly dry and add a quick brush stroke of Tamiya X-22 clear, I made the mistake of trying to brush a couple of layers of X-22 over my Shieldmaidens eyes, the first coat softened the acrylic and the second coat smeared everything so she looked like she had a Marilyn Manson milky contact lens, I did cry a little bit as she was the first bust I'd painted last year and the eyes looked pretty good, so had to strip all the paint off and start again.
Sorry it's a bit long winded but that's how I do it.
Regards
Mick.
