I know some still see Stauffenberg as a traitor and I understand that view - he certainly was a traitor to Hitler personally (always a good thing IMO). I don't propose to engage in a political or motivational discourse with a new member who hasn't registered with a real name and who evidently thinks a cavalry subaltern could have gotten close enough to Hitler to assassinate him and stage a coup in the 1930's.

One quote is sufficient response:

"If a government uses the instruments of power in its hands for the purposes of leading a people to ruin, then rebellion is not only the right but also the duty of every individual citizen." Adolf Hitler - Mein Kampf

Dear All,

1. I am a new member, true. I've been involved in military modelling for about thirty years and I recently discovered this amazing site, where my favourite sculptors use to write and post.
2. My name is real: Iñaki Chamizo, from Santander, Spain. No need to untruly accuse me of writing behind a pseudonim.
3. I never wanted anyone uncomfortable about this subject and I didn't want to divert the modelling and painting subject into a political discussion.
4. I thought it could be interesting to highlight that the anti nazi hero could also be seen as an oportunist who thought things were going to be much better for him, knowing the war was lost. Many died before 1944 and he never left the army or the regime before.
I apologize if my comment was improper but I thought it was a good topic. I always used the modelling to dig in History, films, etc and I understood an honest and open could be welcome.
No trolling.
Also apologize any mistake in my English.

Cheers, guys!

Inaki your English is fine. You don't need to apologize for anything. Perhaps I do as my comment was not very welcoming. I assumed you were using a pseudonym and I have to admit I prefer to know who I am talking to.

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion. In fact, for the first few decades after the war it was the prevailing one in Germany and in the West. Things have changed and Stauffenberg and company are considered heroes by many. His son says Stauffenberg would not be happy with that label as it was a culture of hero worship that allowed Hitler to seize power. But many are uncomfortable with officers attacking their own head of state in time of war. Its a valid position to hold.

You made it clear in your original post that you were not trying to start an argument and you were kind enough to compliment my model. Thanks and welcome to the site.

If you would like to exchange views on Stauffenberg's motivation, I would be happy to do so via PM, so we don't bore everybody. I have a specialist, although amateur, interest in the topic. You can tell that I am generally pro Stauffenberg, although I am not sure he was a man that I would have liked in person. He had a monstrous ego.

Thank you very much, Colin.
I do appreciate very much your kind words and warm welcome. I should introduce myself better and avoid polemics.
Your work is stunning and I am pleased for being welcomed in this great site among great artists.
FYI, since young in love with all related to Britain, and in particular with the period Am. Rev to Victorian colonial Wars, especially the Crimea.
Collector of genuine British helmets, swords, busbys, bearskins... and along these past years owner of three Triumphs.. I should be able to become more popular in the UK!
Thank you, Colin and keep doing so well!

You must be enjoying this time in the hobby Inaki. Used to be you couldn't find a Crimea figure. Now,thanks to Moz, there are superb figures and busts available. I like the Crimea too. I have a bust of Lt. alexander Dunn, 11th Hussars, on my to do list as ge won Canada's first VC.

Moz and Carl are, as you wrote, offering wonders lately... years waiting for this and now they come all together. Very happy. Not my pocket!!
