So, on the button.
Here we go again, firstly the shield, I gave it a coat of Humbrol satin enamel varnish, as soon as that didn't smell any more I gave it a quick spray with hairspray.
I used 3 shades of blue, used paint extender so I could work them longer and applied in random blobs over the shield, then using a broad wet brush started to blend them, I was looking for a worn Woad paint finish, reasonably happy with the result, I'm drawing a Celtic knot circle and have artists water colour pencils to draw it on the shield.

So that's that bit done, back to the face.
After stripping all the paint and primer off I used Tamiya grey primer and left it all day before touching it.
Firstly, again, it was a roughed out circle of grey.

Then the various shades of blue/grey.

Then a few flecks of brown, I really do wish I had a brush that small that would convey paint to the tip when and where I want, just a long process of touching the 5/0 brush against the surface and hoping some paint adheres before drying under the heat of the magnifying lamp (an old non "green" PC light bulb version, although I have made the concession and bought an energy saver)

So there she is, eves done, hair roughed out as well to add some contrast to the face.
Will leave the eyes until tonight before adding drops of clear.

I think they're about the same, it's weird as the Tamiya primer is a darker grey it makes the face look completely different, she had a Charize Theron vibe before, now she's more Tricia Helfer.

Regards.

Hi Mick,

Great to see what you are painting ..and it's a cracking bust as well ...

Love the wood on the shield and the eyes ..a nice recovery there

Thanks for sharing

Nap

Well I won't be doing that again, or if I do it'll be stencils, transfers or someone else doing it, not going to try freehand again, I did a rough sketch, and when I say rough I mean dog rough, I don't know what I migraine is but I think I've got one, under over under over, I'll be dreaming that tonight.
Anyhoo, calmed down, shield finished, might give it a wash to tone down the white, but that's it.

Regards.

Mick.

Looking great!
The wood on the shield is superb... I took extensive notes :sneaky:
The eyes look excellent. You best do a good job on this bust as the subject is of course the future Mrs Chaoscossack

Keep up the great work... following with interest

Colin

Thank you all for your comments, Colin, for the wood all I did was follow the painting guide inside the Vallejo wood and leather paint set, I'll do the same for the Berserk shield but not multi coloured boards

Base colours airbrushed on.
Vallejo flat flesh and burnt red in a variety of thinned shades, then white added for highlights, I'll go over everything with a thinned mix of dark flesh tone, it's got more brown in it and should unify the colours a little more and make it look a lot less pink, I was going to do the effect where you flick the tip of a cut down brush to add small dots of colour, blues, reds, browns and whites, even purples, then airbrush over the top so they barely show and add a realistic mottle to simulate freckles, capillaries, spots etc, it works on bigger figures but not sure about this small.
I may try on the Berserk.

So, flesh tones, flesh tones, flesh tones, god I hate flesh tones lol.
I used the Vallejo flesh colours solely, medium flesh for the shadows, light skin tone for first highlight then natural skin for second highlight.

That was pretty much it for the airbrushing, which was a complete pain as I couldn't find my medium needle and had to use the extra fine that was already in the airbrush, next came dry brushing with highly thinned mixed of natural flesh which is quite light but added white and kept working on the natural highlight areas, brows, bridge of the nose, tops of the cheeks etc. Also added shading under the eyes, eye shadow and some colour to the lips.

I kept adding layers of colour basically dry brusing water tinted with paint, there's still a way to go as she looks like some sun blushed beach babe and not a northern hemisphere Nordic warrior woman.

I worked in the hairline as well, that was thinned paint built up in layers with alternate flesh tone to add some form of transparency instead of a hard hairline that looks painted.
Even painting the hair made a difference to the tone of the skin, maybe the clothing will change it as well, that's for this week though.
Hope you like the progress so far.

Oh and the Tamiya X22 clear dissolved the paint, AGAIN, so had to redo the eyes AGAIN.

Regards.

Mick.

Many thinned layers of light flesh and ultra thinned burnt red along the hair line, I'm sure it will all come together once everythings painted.

Hopefully the clothing will go without a hitch, it's mostly light, dark and red leather, the paints for which are all included in the wood and leather set.

Mick

Ok, here we goes, and please let me know when you get fed up with the pictures.
I lightened around the eyes so she's not so starey in a Goth kind of way, also lightened around the mouth then re did the highlights, toned them down with thinned matt flesh over the top, looking at many many MANY pictures of Katheryn Winnick she has got a tanned flesh tone with more of a pink/red tint but to be honest I'm pretty much happy with what I've got.

Today we also start on the clothing.

Looks awesome!
I am surprised how different actual sculpt is to what they presented in the box art. In fact, box art completely deterred me from considering to buy this one as resemblance wasn't quite there.

Macca G mentioned a thought about getting past copyright, but that doesn't stack up - the legal frame is usually "deceptively similar" (if you look at Morland miniatures court papers etc) and as such I don't think there is any doubt of who was sculpted.

How strange...

Base colours for the leather done, sleeves tomorrow, then it's just a matter of adding highlights then wash after wash.

Regards.

Mick.
