This is a Black Crow Miniatures 1/12 scale bust titled 'Octavius'.
My wife picked it out, so even though there are lots of superbly painted versions (which I know I can't match), I was sort of propelled into having a go.
Here's is my version:-

In the end I found it fun to paint and used a mixture of enamels, oils, acrylics and printers inks.
Hope you like it.

Cheers,
Andrew

Very nice subject for something different, and you handled it really well. The staff and orb combo is very effective.

Hi Andrew

Nice to see the benchtime , certainly a fun piece , agree with Nigel ref the staff but also like the details on the pages of the spell book

Good choice by your wife

Thanks for your kind words Nigel.
Unfortunately there are no special painted effects with the orb.
It's just a Humbrol gloss varnish over the blue. The apparent 'effect' is simply natural light reflecting off the varnish.
The effects I've seen on some painted versions are quite stunning, and well beyond my capabilities.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for taking the time to comment.
It certainly was a fun piece to paint, once I got going.
I had thought about using 'wizarding' pages from t'internet, but the page divider scuppered that idea.
The left page is a partial copy of one of those pages (very shaky hand trying to guide the brush).
That was enough, and the right page was divided up with a 1mm masking tape and the spaces filled with shaky squiggles.
Joy also chose "Cormac, The Druid" (also Black Crow), so I've got that one to get started on.

Cheers,
Andrew

Nice work! I have one waiting in the stash, and anticipate a very enjoyable paint.

Thank you Steve.
Your anticipation should prove correct. I look forward to seeing your finished figure.
Mine was fun all the way through, and getting the plumage on the barn owl looking right proved to be the most enjoyable.

Cheers,
Andrew

I had a closer look at the wood surrounding the orb and found quite a bit of blue on the wood.
I've tried to correct as many of the errors as I could find.
Hopefully. it looks a bit tidier now.
