A note in advance:
Today there are a few photos that are not for everyone. Nevertheless, I am showing them
to illustrate the immense brutality of the events I am writing about today!
Gas…!
On October 23, 2002, 40 to 50 armed men and women from Chechnya stormed the Dubrovka Theater ...
... in Moscow, where around 880 spectators are currently watching the musical "Nord-Ost".
Russian security guards, like Viktor Nestrujew here, are shot immediately or killed by hand grenades ...:
At first, the audience does not even notice that it is an attack, since uniformed actors also take part in the musical story as soldiers ...
... and the appearance of armed men on stage was considered part of the staging.
The attackers, who describe themselves as members of the "29th Chechen Division", barricade themselves in the theater with their 850 hostages - spectators and musical performers.
In the initial excitement, about 90 people manage to escape from the building.
The leader of the hostage-takers, Mowsar Barajew ...
... explains to the hostages that he has no grudge against foreigners present and promises to release any hostage who can show a foreign passport.
About 75 foreign hostages from 14 countries including Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States are present.
And - you want to hold your head: the Russian brokers reject this offer!
So the foreigners remained hostages.
Meanwhile, the hostage-takers mine the entire building - some of the hostages are also strapped to explosive devices.
Barayev calls for the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya in order to be released, as well as the stop of the use of artillery and air forces from the next day.
(At the time of the hostage-taking, the average casualty of the Russian army in Chechnya was three soldiers a day, the Chechens between 80 and 100 a day, mostly uninvolved civilians ...)
To show their goodwill, the attackers released around 150–200 hostages after a few hours.
These are children, pregnant women, Muslims, some of the foreigners and people who need medical care.
Two women manage to escape ...:
The attackers say they are ready to kill ten hostages for every hostage-taker killed by Russian security forces.
After three days of unsuccessful negotiations, the Russian security forces decide to storm the theater.
They want to do that very cleverly and things go completely wrong!
At around 5 o'clock on the morning of October 26, 2002, members of the Russian special unit "Alfa" introduced a gas into the building that was still unknown to this day.
It is believed that an anesthetic aerosol, possibly carfentanyl or 3-methylfentanyl in conjunction with halothane, was used. This gas has a dampening effect on the breathing reflex, which can lead to standstill.
The assault began 30 minutes later.
The hostage-takers did not detonate a single explosive device during these events, nor did they shoot the hostages!
Nevertheless, 129 hostages die - mostly due to the effects of the gas that was probably much too high ...
... the effect of which can also be clearly seen in those who have been liberated alive ...:
"Alfa" doesn't bother to take prisoners!
The stunned terrorists are killed on the spot with headshots ...
... and many of those killed are additionally mocked by placing cognac bottles in their hands, as shown in the next picture, in order to discredit them as "good Muslims" ..:
The Muscovites mourn ...:
