Lots of the sites I'm on have an "everything else" type forum for chatter about stuff not related to the forum's core interest and they can often become the most frequented place on the site which alone might be enough reason to be cautious about having one*.

Would your proposed version allow discussions of politics or religion Gordy?

*To use CMON as an example, General Discussion has 12,344 threads with 290,005 posts and the nearest other one is Painting & Conversions with far less than half as many posts. It's a tossup whether these divert activity from the practical forums or draw people to the site.

oh gees no... no politics or religion. thats a mainstay for pretty much every forum. it will just get ugly IMO.

I think a off topic thread might be handy. especially for things like displaying collections, organising meet ups etc.

The General Discussion thread is already used for Off Topic matters and seems to perform well.

If it's not broke, don't fix it.

What Tony just said, while it might increase hits that will come at a cost IMHO.

I try to limit my posts to any forum to the subject at hand. I don't think we need a place to discuss the latest plane crash or celebrity hijinks.

I can understand that, but separated from the other content, in it's own forum, it could just be a cupboard you'd never open, no ?

The initiative behind this is to get new builders, painters and sculptors exposed and involved with our craft, and provide an additional outlet for members to interact not only in our craft (scene) but also on a more personal level.

We don't want this hobby, our craft, our scene to die off with this generation, the more I can get us to connect with a younger crowd the better it is for all of us professionally, economically and personally. :)

Not sure? why an off topic?

If is for that is Ok, but if is to chat about political situations, religions, etc. I'm not agree!
