I thought I'd make a start on my next project, Scale Collectables "Officer of the Anglo-Zulu war, while waiting for some paint to dry on my current piece.

I'm experimenting a bit with the flesh tones to try and achieve a better graduation and smoother finish.
The tones have been built up gradually with glazes and feathered in with a flat brush.
There's still more work required, but that's a job for tomorrow now.

Hi Malc

You sneaked this one in .....saw a unpainted version that Jimbo has ...it's really nice

Good start on your version , like the highs and the eyes

Look forward to seeing more

I've done a little more work on the flesh tones, but if I'm honest, I'm not completely happy with it.
I think its looking a little better since adding the moustache and chin strap.
The helmet and strap are just base coated as this stage.

Excellent star, like a lot your skin tones and smooth transitions.
How is exactly your technique?

Cheers,
Francisco

Hi Francisco.
I use the above Vallejo flesh tone set. It comes with a guide to painting light and dark flesh tones.
On this particular project, I've experiment doing something a little different from my normal approach.
After applying the base coat and then underpainting specific areas with red black, I began building up the flesh tones, with glazes blending in
the edges with a dry flat brush. I found the results quite pleasing, although I need to tidy up the jaw line.
For a first attempt at this method I'm quite pleased.

Coming along nice, adding colour to the facial hair can really change the look of the skin.

Cheers Simon

You're right Simon, the face looked better once I painted the hair, moustache and chin strap, even popping the helmet on made a difference.

Thank you so much for your response Malc.
The result is excellent in my opinion, I'll try it.

Cheers,
Francisco
