Hi Folks,

Another delve down into the depths of the GA came up with this old, but very nice simple little figure. I'd come across it a good while back in a second-hand box and liked the pose and good price. It's only after I started painting it that I truly realised how much detail the sculptor had managed to pack into it.
Paint was mainly acrylic, with oils for face and hands.

Nice one Andrew :)

Funnily enough he's also in my 'paint pot' (I mount my figures on temporary wooden dowels then stack them in a mug. I usually have 4 or 5 sitting there waiting to be done)
Anyway I've tweaked mine a bit by altering the legs and I've added a new face.

It's a fabulous hat isn't it?

Paul

Chota Sahib, there's a blast from the past. Nice painting Andrew, it's a shame you can't get these anymore.
Like what you've done with this one.

(see you Saturday)

You have done a lovely job on this ;---- I was in Sid Horton's workshop (actually his basement under the house in Brighton!) when he was putting the final touches to this figure. All done in green/grey Milliput, and it was a joy to watch him work away....... I haven't seen one of these for years; great to see it again. You're right, Paul, it is a fabulous Tarleton-style helmet.

Thanks for looking Paul, and yes, it's quite some hat.
Looking forward to seeing yours in due course.

Many thanks for your kind comments Bob.
You can still come across Chota Sahib figures occasionally on the second hand tables.
Look forward to meeting you on Saturday.

Andrew

Glad you liked him Alan.
Fantastic to have seen Sid Horton actually sculpting this one.

Hi buddy
That's a really nice li'l fig, and a lively bit of daubing too.

I am surprised Taff owned up to posing for Sid Horton though.

I thought he only posed as a French grenadier.

Paul.

That's a proper blast from the past and beautifully done too! I did quite a few Chota Sahib figures when I was a kid. This one has been gathering dust on a shelf at my folks house for nigh on thirty years! I think I painted it in 1988. Enamels mostly.

If, as you surmise that, Alan posed for Sid Horton, I can only conclude that he did a very good job.

Cheers,
Andrew

Thanks for the kind comment Alex.
PF's 'Mirofsoft' has an excellent website which contains a lot of old catalogues:-

Your Officer, 17th Lancers, 1825, can be found in one of them.
Nicely painted, by the way.

Cheers,
Andrew

Thanks Andrew. Trip down memory lane looking through that! I've been having IT dramas recently, but now I've worked out how to upload pictures without my laptop I'll post some pics of my more recent stuff. As I said, it's nearly 30 years since I painted that Lancer officer (I think I was 18). In fact, I think it was the last thing I painted until I picked up my brushes again just over three years ago!

Cheers,
Alex
