Hi friends from pF

My new completed figure, the bust of a Officer from the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (7. Foot), 200m bust, from Mitches Military Models, of Gordon Mitchel (@Grod here at pF), and sculpted by Pete Morton (@Diamond Cutter here at pF).

If you want to see my review of the bust, it is here

There is also a full figure avaliable.

The website is http://www.mitchesmilitarymodels.co.uk/ and both the figure and the service are recommended (y)

It is one of my favourite periods, but, curiously, it is my first redcoat. :)

Enough chat, picture time!

PLEASE: Make critics like if it was in the "brutal criticism" section. I must learn more, and that is the way!

The plate is not ready yet, but it will be like this (that´s valid for you too, Hendryk :D)

plate-1.jpg

Face with Vallejo and oils. Everything else with Vallejo. Vallejo inks also were used for the metals.

Next, i will finish the Highlander from ArtGirona that is lost in some thread around here...

That is it. (y)

I think it's looking good. perhaps the shade area in the face can be a little better. I mean the fading between highlights and shade.

Keith and Funky, thank you for your comments.

Renegertje, thank you for your critic. I will get on that, i understood what you mean and i agree with you.

:)

Very nice I'd make the gorget etc a little more metallic, if it was me but thats about it
Steve

I agree with Steve. The gorget, and on the sword, the grip and guard appear a bit too yellow. Use metallic gold as a base followed by dark brown and black washes. You can then mix the yellow ink with your base and apply this as a glaze. This will make the parts a bit brighter since these items were somewhat polished on the real deal. Finally, hit the highlights with a lighter / brighter gold, or use a mix of silver and gold. Other than that, I like what you did with the face and everything else. You've got a great looking bust (y)!

Hendryk, Steve and Joe, thank you all for the praises and comments.

I´ve tried to follow them. :)

I made a extreme highlight in the red coat, using very diluted orange.

I´ve also followed Renegertje critic and tried to make the colour transition in the face a little better.

The yellow metals, i´ve made a couple of Vallejo Smoke washes.

In all cases, i´ve tried not to make anything harsh, to not risk the bust.

Here are the new pictures.

Very good painted bust.
The face looks very good now in my opinion.
As far as the red jacket goes: I find it all around red and a dark brown. If you like you have to highlight the upperedge of the fold's more. Make around the buttons a dark wash, so that the button comes out. Then make a highlight with silver and gold, maybe only silver.
For my taste you should get rid of the acrylic metallic colors. They seems never looks good for my eyes.
Try the oilpaints. Raw umber + printers ink gold (Stormtroopers) and highlight with prinkters ink gold and high-highlight with silver.

Steve and Ventress, thank you both :)

Marc, thank you for your comments. I will not do nothing more on this figure, is always risky. :)

But i will take note on your comments for the future. As soon as i make a purchase with Stuart, i will see about these inks. (y)

Regards to all

Hi Filipe ,

I cannot disagree with all the comments and suggestions , this looks to be a great bust , what stands out for me if the lace work on the collar/cuffs etc ...some nice highlighting ..is this metallics or NMM .

The gorget a distinctive item of an officer (normally worn when on duty) would have had a cord (perhaps this officer wears his under his collar) , good reference is the "Cut of the Cloth" :th.jpg

Really like the way you have done the base , this together with the nameplate is an area so often left with minimal thought IMO.

If I may suggest a little more shadows on the crossbelt but you are probably right is saying "I will not do nothing more on this figure, is always risky" ..either way :

A really nice piece and one that both you and Gordon should be proud of .

Thank you for the praises and comments.

About the braids, i did exactly the process described by Danilo Cartacci in his book. If you do not have the book, i can make a detailed description here. :)

About the gorget, the photos posted by Gordon at the time did not showed any cord or lace, everythin was "metal". But, since it fits perfectly, i think that the intention was exactly like you said, the cord worn under the collar.

Regards and TAKE CARE. We dont want any more threads here about your health (y)
