Finally plucked up courage to start this beaut http://www.planetfigure.com/threads...n-geroldseck-bishop-of-strasbourg-1262.51676/ http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/walter-von-geroldseck-200mm-bust-by-fex.52584/

I decided however not paint it as per the titular person but as a English version John of Halton (De Halton) partly as a personal choice and partly to upset the Scottish contingent :sneaky:

"It was Halton together with the Archbishop of York who excommunicated Robert Bruce in 1305 after the killing of John Comyn and in 1306 he absolved everyone of their offences against the King’s enemies in Scotland which must have pleased the English borderers no end as they could then steal and kill with neither fear of hellfire and damnation nor, at the very least, a long time in Purgatory. For his pains he was involved in the Seige of Carlisle in 1314 when Edward Bruce attempted to take the city. He fled the border for large chunks of time enjoying the peace and quiet of Lincolnshire. He was one of the king’s representatives in the treaty signed between England and Scotland in 1320."

His coat of arms

The title is taken from this musical work about 2:10 into it, which in turn is taken from a poem by William Blake {"Prologue, intended for a dramatic piece of King Edward the Fourth" (Poetical Sketches)}, recited by the late Scottish actor Douglas Campbell.

"O for a voice like thunder, and a tongue / To drown the throat of war! When the senses / Are shaken, and the soul is driven to madness, / Who can stand? When the souls of the oppressèd / Fight in the troubled air that rages, who can stand? / When the whirlwind of fury comes from the / Throne of God, when the frowns of his countenance / Drive the nations together, who can stand?/ When Sin claps his broad wings over the battle, / And sails rejoicing in the flood of Death; / When souls are torn to everlasting fire, / And fiends of Hell rejoice upon the slain, / O who can stand? O who hath causèd this? / O who can answer at the throne of God? / The Kings and Nobles of the Land have done it! / Hear it not, Heaven, thy Ministers have done it!"

If ever a man could thunder out those words surely this is him :nailbiting: (that or Brian Blessed  )

After all that blather onto the figure, face is there for now still work to do but want to work on the rest before final shading/touching in. I am not sure about the shield want it to look worn and used but not sure if it just looks badly painted :cautious:, the metals are about done on the helm but still mulling over the crest as to what to paint it as. As ever and especially on this one all comments/criticism gratefully received, be as blunt as you wish and as ever yes the photos are crap

I have always liked this sculpt Steve'
You have made a great start and definitely the best launch production of any figure WIP I have ever seen/heard.
For the "Voice Like Thunder" borrow Carl's Megaphone.
Hooked into this one with interest Mate.
All the very best for 2014,
Keith,

Thanks folks much appreciated any suggestions for the "mitre" on the helm Del suggested two lions, I was thinking of perhaps a white background with a cross in red or purple ?

Steve - Slightly off topic but I am sitting here in Stratford Ontario (Justin Bieber's home town) which is also the home and business HQ for Lorena McKennitt. A wonderful artist who puts on an annual concert for the locals in the largest church here. She is also an honourary Colonel in the RCAF and she sings the national anthem at the cenotaph each Nov. 11. Love her music and I had not heard this piece - so thanks for the heads up.
