Hi all, one for the old gits.

looking for a bit of help before I completely crack up.
Some of you will know that as you get older memories from years ago jump into your head.

Anyway about 44 years ago I got a map from an aunt for my birthday, it was a coloured and illustrated map of the old west showing the poular major events, the Alamo, Big Horn, OK Corral and who shot who where and when. I also think it listed and geograpically placed the tribes.
Can anyone help to fill in some details???

Also got a Buntline Special as part of the birthday present if anyone remembers what that was then you're really old.

Help ma Boab

Well I never!!!

I had one of those on my bedroom wall, it was about poster size, probably about 10 years after you got yours. I bought mine from a stall at the Great Yorkshire Show.
iirc marked on the map were cattle trails, Chisholm etc. Railroads, the route of the Pony Express and the Mason/Dixon Line.

Memories of that map are flooding back now, I also bought a large print of an Indian Chief.

I bet you felt as good as I did.
Reckon I was about four foot at the time and I felt invincible.

If my memory serves Hugh O'Brien played Earp, wish they'd show these again instead of some of the awful repeats.
Do you remember the Texas Rangers? Don't remember much about the show but I remember it had a cool intro as the rangers merged from the side streets.

Good times, not a care in the world.

Del I've never seen this map , this might be because I'm a few years ahead of you and this would be about the time I discovered the opposite sex , but I do remember the Wyatt Earp series plus some early ones like The Range Rider,
Cisco Kid and Boots And Saddles .
If you do track one down could you post a picture on the forum

I just about remember the Cisco Kid, I've got this image in my mind of what I thought then was a really old man dressed in black and silver. Clearly we lived in simpler times then,
As to the map I've had a heads up that it might be a National Geographic issue, so I'm following that up.
Best wishes
Derek

Sorry to say Del but your memory seems to be playing tricks on you , yes he was dressed in black and silver , but it was his side kick Pancho who was the older man , just try to remember the end of each episode where they solved the crime and would lift their arms in the air and say "Hey Pancho Hey Cisco " then ride into the sunset . Wern't life just great back in them days .
Del do you attend any shows in the UK? I bet we could spend half a day reminiscing about all the old TV Westerns!

Hey Gordon:

I enjoyed you writing about the Cisco Kid episodes. And I too remember them.
But I believe they didn't say "hey" to each other at the end of each episode.
Altho I realize this isn't of much concern or importance considering all the
problems of this planet at this point in time! :(

But as I recall, one of them made a joke, and then Cisco would say:

Ooooooooooh Poncho!!!

And then with a big ear to ear smile and a naughty twinkle in his
eye, Leo Carrillo hooted: Ooooooh ooooh oh oooooh, Cissssss cooooo!

Then they turned their horses to the wind and road off into the
Sunset. Desolve to Black. . . as the theme music swells. :)(y)(y)

Rick your memory is better than mine ,so here's one for you which western series always started with a stagecoach running along then a bunch of outlaws coming after it , the guard shotting over the back of the stagecoach
gets shot and falls off, was it Cisco Kid ?
As this thread has gone on I'm tempted to get a few cowboy kits and paint them in Black and White

so close but no cigar, the one I'm thinking of was similar in concept but a much more 'adult' version. By the way welcome to Pf.
Gordon I'll be going to Euro with the tartan army reminiscence squad, a friendlly dribbling bunch, recognisable by the bibs we wear and slight chlorine smell. The old guy I was thinking off was Hoppalong Cassidy.
Micheal, Rick yes the world is a challenge at the moment but sometimes you've just got to count your blessings and jump down the rabbit hole....the search goes on.
Take care out there
Derek

Hey Gordon and Doug:

This is fun! Gordon, I'm going to have to say I can't come up with the
answer. As I think back, I do "kinda" remember that scene you mentioned
with the stage coach and the outlaws, . . . but I can not come up with the
answer.

Doug. . . yep. . . you're right some times you just have to jump down the
rabbit hole. :):):):) and BTW, I will say that I saw Tim Burton's version
at the local movie house, just last week. Of course, I 'm speaking of the
film Alice in Wonderland. . . Very artistic and very creative movie. The
computer generated graphics are awesome. Not to the level of Avatar, IMHO
but very interesting and inspirating just the same.
