Guys

As DEL started the Olympic Opening Ceremony, i would like to start the thread about the Olympic Closing Ceremony to say one thing, up front of anything that will be shown on TV.

As you all know, the end of the ceremony includes a piece of presentation about the next Olympic. And, as you all know, the next Olympic will be in Brazil, more precisely, Rio de Janeiro.

And, as a brazilian, i would like to say that im really, REALLY sorry for the eight minutes about Brazil that you are all about to see at Olympic Closing Ceremony.

Regards to all

Filipe from Brazil :)

It better be good Filipe or we'll all be holding you personally responsible!

I truly understand you, Filipe. My worst nigthtmare? Madrid as 2020 Olympics host city!

stopped looking in my vacation when the judges give away the gold medal to the britain for the taming. They made two fault's, the dutch whas fautless.
And then the elite of the dutch is going to bid for the Olympics in 2028......We are short now around 20 biljoen Euro, and they give the Greeks, Spane and Italy our Pensions.
I must work 11 years longer then they told me when I started.
Giving more money on a plane that will never fly (JSF), but it seems there is money enough:oops:
So, I hope they will stop this nonsens and consuming so much money, even in country's where there is better to give the money to the people to buy food.
Only my opinion.

Guys

My thread was not a political statement. My point is that Gaudin said: cliches, common sense, stereotypes, etc. More from the same about Brazil. You all will see...

On the positive side I have been seeing some references to a rebirth in British pride patriotism and a reduction in the likelihood of Scottish separation. I guess with 3 you get egg roll. My home city of Toronto periodically decides to bid fo rthe Olympics and inevitably fails - thank God! I put it down to our collective inferiority complex and desire to be taken seriously as a world class city. Long may we fail!

Because of the time difference between the UK and Australia I didn't see the closing ceremony until last night when it was replayed. Compared to the Opening Ceremony, I thought the Closing Ceremony was pretty ordinary. Some of the music was pretty weak (Pet Shop Boys, George Michael - really???). I'm sure for those who attended it was a memorable, once-in-a-lifetime experience, but for me it put me to sleep.

My abiding memory of these games will be the exchange between The Queen and James Bond during the Opening Ceremony, and Rowan Atkinson playing Chariots of Fire. Classic

For me the closing ceremony was a bit mixed probably because a lot of the music was not to my taste and seemed incongruous to the Olympic message, for me the defining moment was Lennon singing "Imagine" a song with a very powerful message which could have been used to end the proceedings. I thought the Brazilian effort was great and I am sure their infectious enthusiasm and music will be something to look forward to in 2016

As I said in the initial debate, hope you all enjoyed the party because the hangover will be arriving very soon for the UK taxpayer by way of the annual budget statement and for Londoners, from as early next near onwards via their council tax bills. As a side issue, I can only guess at the bad economic news both the UK Government and the EU Commission have "buried" this past month whilst the distraction was filling our TV screens. I mean, have Greece and Spain financially turned themselves around already given they have not been mentioned once on the news for some 4 weeks now? Still, it's not all bad news as the athletes themselves already line up to sign their multi-million pounds /dollar sponsorship packages on the back of their Olympic Glories. That said and as we keep getting told, it's supposedly given us a burst of national pride (whatever being "British" means these days given local government won't even let you fly the national flag from your house and display a St George Cross at anything other than a England soccer match and by default you are deemed to be 'racist' or a BNP voter?) and of course, the athletes did it all for their respective country (insert as applicable) and not themselves! I do wonder when the money starts rolling in to their bank accounts just how many of them will voluntarily plough back some of their own money into projects & groups who help young kids aspiring to the dreams and standards they have reached and which, here in the UK anyway, were possible for them by sponsorship via the taxpayer and national lottery funds? Let's see if the "Olympic Spirit" or individual and corporate £/$ greed prevail eh.
