WIP Critique One down, one to go - 120mm Fallschirmjager

Hi all, I just wanted to show you the latest figure I've completed - a 120mm Jeff Shiu Fallschirmjager from the Ardennes offensive.

I don't normally go for German subjects, but these figures had so much character they won me over. The moulding and quality of the figures is top notch.

I will eventually *attempt* to scratch build the rear edge of a King Tiger tank, as per the famous wartime photo of the 3rd Fallschirmjager Division riding into battle.

Beautiful job Nick - that "raindrop" pattern on the camo smock scares the bejeezus out of me; guess that's why I cling irrationally to Allied figures! You've done a great job on it, and on the rest of the figure as well.

I like the display with the second figure as well - is that going to be the look of the final display? If so, me likee lots!

You're right about the surface shine, Nickolay, particularly around the bottom of the leg. This became really noticeable to me once I got the figure under the light tent. I'll take some Matt Coat to the worst part tonight, and see if I can dull it down.

I'm still learning to paint with Vallejo acrylics and for some reason certain colours seem to get this sheen. Perhaps I'm not diluting it enough. Thanks for the advice, Nickolay!

Cheers, Brian! Yep, I'll be keeping the figures positioned that way, but I'll try to build a small slice of a Tiger Tank rear deck edge on top of the base, similar to the below image. How I'll do that though, I have no idea...lots of plastic card and swearing I think

As for the shine with Vallejo acrylics, I suggest you add a few drops of Vallejo Flat Medium into your diluted paint mix. Another popular solution in to add a very small drop of Tamiya x21 Flat Clear into your paint mix. This is particularly helpful with Vallejo reds, blues and greens which are notoriusly shiny. no matter how dilute you make the paint mix.

Thanks heaps, Tony. It was actually seeing a few of your figures at the club way back, including your excellent 120mm Falklands Royal Marine, that made me want to go large scale and order these Fallschirmjager.

A touch of Tamiya X21 Flat base mixed in during the painting phase will get rid of any shine Nick.
A bit of trial and error though, too much and it'll go chalky.

Thanks for the tip, Carl! I will definitely start doing this when painting in Vallejo. It's all a bit trial and error when you start using a new medium, but I'm loving the acrylics so far.
