I think the main thing to try to make them look more like the real thing is some sheen; far too common these days to see them dead matt, which is fine if they're intended to look old or dusty. A satin finish also means they'll end up slightly darker, which is a good thing IMB.

I'm not aware that they have any iridescence like you see on some crow feathers, so I'd just use blue if you want to add more colour to the highlights.
