I have been donating painted figures to my Regiment’s Annual Reunion (3rd Inf. Regt. “The Old Guard”) and to the Oregon Cascade Chapter of the 101st Abn. Div. Annual Picnic for the last three years.

In the Fall of 2010 I learned that the Oregon Cascade Chapter had two “Famous” members—Mr. Don Malarkey and Mr. Bill Wingett, both members of Easy Company 506th PIR, “The Band of Brothers”. I decided to paint a figure for each of them. I converted two Young busts for the project

Bill Wingett’s figure was presented at a group breakfast.

Upon his receiving it, other WWII Vets asked, “Where is ours?” So, I decided to do something for them also. That turned into thirteen more busts! I used a Coree body and a Warrior head to make a new bust that would be easier to paint. For the AAF Vet I had a Legend and Lore bust of Jimmy Stewart.

Mr. Don Malarkey celebrated his 90th birthday on July 31 and his figure was presented there. Also present that day was “Buck” Compton (The Band of Brothers) and Al Phillips, Company A 377th Abn. Arty.

Another Young bust was donated to the picnic raffle and raised $510! Go Airborne!! All proceeds went to the 101st Div. charities.

I think this is a neat way to thank our Vets and you may want to do the same in your area.
