Hi guys
Has anyone painted an eye on a bust to suggest injury I am looking to give my wasteland warrior with a eye to represent that he is blind in one eye , want to give it that milky effect with the eye still visible I have an idea how to do it but was just wondering if anyone has done this before .
Cheers Chris

I haven't done it. But if using acrylics I would paint the eye normally to match the healthy one, gloss coat it and then add the milky effect using a build-up of transluscent grey/off white paint applications on the pupil....don't wash it as you don't want the milky to flow into the crevasses of the eye sculpt. With oils pretty much the same taking into account drying times.

Just a suggestion.

Having worked with the 'Visually Impaired', for over 23yrs. What you will invariably see is the 'Scalera', is usually blood shot!, or much redder than normal. The Iris and the pupil are usually greyed out as they are non-functioning. However there can still be some slight definition on the outer edge of the Iris.
As an example,
Hope this helps!

I'd have to agree 100% with Colin's painting approach to this one whilst keeping in mind Mark's examples of injured off centre irises.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the feed back guys images and ideas, I really did toss and turn about this , as I to work with disabilities ,and I was a to be honest a bit uncomfortable about representing this as I understand the devastation of impaired vision , just one of the things that this hobby does some times ,and what makes the planing and implementation of this hobby so interesting but thought searching ?
Cheers again guys
Chris

Chris, I doubt that anyone would find this representation objectionable! ;) .. . For example, if a sculptor ever produced a 'Napoleonic piece', of an individual that has had his leg knocked off by a cannon ball and is on crutches, or being supported by a comrade! would you find it distasteful? Yet, we paint Pirates, with one leg, one eye, and one arm! and a dodgy parrot without such thoughts! :D It all depends on subject matter, and quite possibly timescale.:).. So I would go ahead, and represent what you wish to portray!.

Regards,

Mark

Chris don't worry about giving offence. I'm visually impaired having lost the sight in one eye following a retinal occlusion & I never even thought of your thread as being potentially offensive.
I just see myself as well equipped to turn a blind eye to all of life's faults, especially my painting. Oh and I do a mean pirate/Lord Nelson impression!
