I paint my eyes first... I paint in oils but do my eyes in acrylics. I either do eyes right or eyes left.. sometimes I do it in the center. I usually put in the pupil first then the iris then outline then put in the catch light. But on my last bust I did I talked with Stephen Mallia and I put a black circle in first then put in the pupil over that and left a tiny line around the eye. Then did the iris and the catch light. To me.. the eyes make or break the figure..

when painting eyes (in any scale) start with the left eye (from your view)if you are right-handed or visa-versa. in this way you paint the difficult eye first.

Thanks for the tip Willem, I will try it for my future fig.

I actully like the way Stephen shows how he does the eyes. I am actually
having trouble on a 120mm Minute Man figure I am working on now... I like how Stephen did the colors and the detail behind the iris.

I remember Anders doing a really nice SBS on this awhile back. If anyone can find it (or if the pics are still there) please post a link as I can't find it.

hi, alexandre

found through this forum a interesting little book called

"Color mixing recipes for portaits" by William F. Powell

it has a section in it all about mixing colors for the eyes, hair, scintones,

nose, lips etc. using oils or acryl. (price is around 10.- euro)

Keep practising, greetings Willem
